Difference between DVD R and DVD RW?

I have a single DVD player recorder on my laptop with RW written on it

What blank DVD's do I need to copy DVD's?

Many thanks

DVD -R or DVD+R can only be written on once .

DVD RW are rewriteable , they can be recorded on over and over , and the content erased .

I always use the DVD - R rather than the +R , look for good quality ones rather than cheaper ones . Something with the Ritek G05 or G06 dark purple dye . I'm assuming you want it to put your video on .

This place is as good as any online .

You need to find out whether your dvd burner is DVD-R/W or DVD+R/W or dual format. There is also dual layer disks but thats a whole other ball game ;) Then you know what disks to buy.

As Mrbilly said, the R mean you can only write to them once, also known as WORM (Write Once Read Many) whereas RW means rewritable, you can normally rewrite about 1000 times before the disk must be discarded.

Thanks Guys

The recorder says multi format so should be okay for the DVD-R's?

MrBillyUk i will go for some good quality ones!!

Most are multi format i.e. +R AND -R's . I've used a couple of thousand of the datasafe disks , never had a problem , not impressed with the Bulkpaq ones .

Something like these would be suitable .

My PS2 will not read RW discs. I am presuming your PS2 is chipped or something ?

Normal players can be hit and miss, but most newer players should be ok. Don't know why people use RW anyway, R's are so cheap now, they are pointless for me. I think the last lot I got were about 16p each, quality discs too

No mate just a normal one

Will a std dvd player read RW discs?

Should do . Like KDF says when you burn the dvd make sure the box " finalize DVD ( no further writing possible ) " is ticked. Use nero , easiest imo .

Cheers guys update the recorder did finalise the disc and when I used a -R disc it works fine on Playstation, its just the RW it doesn't like lol!!

Thanks al for your help!!

SORTED!
