different top mount for later RT’s

did renault make a different design of top mount for the later mk1 clio RTs?


i ask because ive got some gmax dampers (front) and they already come with the nut, when i tried fitting them and they didnt fit( and after a mechanic saying he couldnt get em to fit) i rang up gmax to ask why there wasnt a groove in the threaded bar to locate the circlip.

the bloke then explanined that they are designed to be used with the later top mounts that clio RTs have that fix in position with a nut and not the circlip, so in order to fit them i would need to buy some of these later top mounts ( im assuming they are smaller or sumat)..but ive been to top gear, gsf and they all tell me that they only have one top mount listed for the clio i.e up to 97...does anyone know how the new design is different?

i had similar prob but just pushed spring down, put top mount on and then used the bolt and screwed it down instead of circlip.

thanks malice, di you have any probs securing it in the engine bay, you know was the thread long enought etc to fit the circulat rubber/metal fixing under the bonnet?

all genuine renault shocker tops etc now come as the later design even if its for a early vehicle.the shocker top kits inc nuts are not exspensive.
