Digital freeview TV in Swindon - Anyone got it?

As the title really. Anyone got freeview through an ariel?

My TV reception is piss poor. Can't even get Five at the minute, and I've been thinking about going digital for a while, buying a new TV, digital kit, maybe a media center, but I don't see the point unless I can go digital

Don't want to get NTL or Sky. Tried my parents digibox a few months back and got nothing, but that doesn't mean much as my aerial is currently in the loft and probably with old knackered wiring. So I was thinking maybe next year I'd look to get a new aerial installed if I could guarantee it would get me digital and good reception.

Any advice appreciated :S

fone yer local aerial fitter they`ll tell ya , new aeriels are pritty cheap unless u need a high strength one

its not all about if you can get it in your area as well. We can get it in our area but because our house has a number of tall flat blocks (on harbour) it blocks any chance of us getting digital!! But soon everyone with have to go digital as terrestial as it will be stopping;.

Yeah, I live in what I would consider to be an open flatish area, no big obstructions, but according to the postcode checkers online no freeview. :( I just find this hard to believe in such a residential area.

Any ideas of an approx price I'd expect to pay to get a new aerial fitted on the roof (don't fancy going up a ladder myself!)

It would probably cost about £100 to get a new aerial fitted.

As Sky starts at £150 a year including free box and installation, not to mentioned loads more channels even on their basic package I don't know why you don't just get Sky.

I don't want sky (or ntl) due mainly to the whole "box" thing. You have to have a sky box, which means you can only watch one channel at a time, and I don't see how it will work nicely with a media center (which is my ultimate goal) or video.

Also, I resent paying £100 year for a TV license for the crap they put on without having to pay an extra £150/year to watch repeats or see next weeks episode now. I'm not really into sport either so there is no attraction there either.

I'm just fed up with squinting across the room at my 20yr old 14" TV ;) Teletext? whats that? press the red button on your remote? what red button? in fact, what remote?!

A nice swish tft digital with media centre sounds nice. Shame it wont make the programs any better really!

Let me rephrase that! What I really want is the media centre, but theres not a lot of point when you can only get channels 1,2,3 and 4 and the picture isn't that great on any of them. Plus it wouldn't look so great on my ancient TV, if it would connect at all!

If you can't get the terestrial chanels clearly then there's little hope the Freeview digital platform will be any good in your area.

Hannington (Berkshire) is your nearest digital transmitter.

Look at all your neighbours houses, if they all have sky dishes then it might because it's the only way they can watch Emmerdale.
