Digital Fuel Guage

I have had my Clio now for a few months, but im still unsure how much fuel i ever have in my car.

The fuel light comes on when the trip computer says i only have '50 miles' left in the tank.

However, about 30 seconds after the light comes on, the 50 miles just goes, dosn't give me a reading.

So how long can i go on a 'empytish' tank.

Just somthing thats bugging me!

Thanks

In my experiences, the trip computer is really unreliable. Dont expect it to be accurate. As a general rule of thumb, I dont let it go below 60 miles. I did once manage about 8 miles along a Duel Carriageway on an 'empty' tank though.

I've found on my 172 (not out of choice) that when it reads 50 miles you can definately get that 50 miles out of it, even though it then says empty. The readings are conservative to try and stop people pushing the limits.

My miles remaining display never worked since i got the car, all of the other stuff on the multi function display works bar that! That reminds me, thread ahoy!

The remaining miles I think is based on your mpg, your mpg isn't accurate as it doesn't count the fuel you use when you're stationary stuck in traffic. The miles to fill up goes off as someone else has said because its not accurate and shouldn't be 100% relied on.

i'll await someone saying "you suck all the crap out the bottom of your tank if it gets that low" or "thats bad for your car"

shut up

I drove about 50 miles on my red light the other day and only managed to get 43.65L of petrol in a 50L tank. So i had a good 50 miles left aswell. Normally circa 10L left when the light comes on.

Most I ever filled in the DCI was 48 litres, and that was about 90 miles since the reading went to ------. And still had 2 litres plus whatever was in the lines.

I thought i could do the 30 miles once, That it says you have when the light comes on, it couldnt and conked out at the traffic lights 5 mins from home in Rush hour :o

So now when the light comes on i fill it up ASAP

^ lol unlucky. Must've been nailing it to only get 30 miles from when the light comes on though?

If the fuel is under half way I just fill up whenever I get a chance. Saves having to do it when you don't want to (i.e. after a long day or if you're running late).

So i should have a fair bit in my 1.2 :$

Very rarely let the light come on, just making sure if i ever cut cought short.

And i do hope the MPG display is very rough, as i only get 34mpg which sucks :(

try 25 mpg and two fuel tanks to keep an eye on, 82.5 litres of fuel im carrying around when i fill up completely :o

I get the ------- when its just under 50 Miles remaining.

What I do is, I reset the trip distance every time I fill up. I then drive and drive till the empty light comes on. Flick over to distance remaining (about 49 miles usually) and then flick over to trip distance covered and add on 49 miles. I then know that I MUST fill up before my trip distance reaches that amount.

Worked for me so far for over 2 years!

I can normally do at least what the computer says before the display goes blank.

But I tend to use the fuel used number to work out how much I have left.

I have run out at 9.9 gallons (even though it was a full 11 gallon tank lol). Normally I can safely take it to 10 though. I also find the computer is less accurate the more times I turn the engine off.

My fuel light came on in windemere and i got back to Leeds without filling up JUST (All the petrol stations were shut)

Coasing down country roads FTW!

i got 55 miles when mines used to come on bout 44miles to empty.
i tripped the computer and ran it to about 55 was fun waiting to break down.
good times it was probly sucking every ounce of fuel soaked muck in the tank!
