Direct Line insurance

Anyone with them? cos im thinking of moving companies - to direct line

Do direct line insure u with mods at any age or at a certain one, also i may wanna do an engine conversion at some point,, what what they say to that anyone know?

cheers

I am with direct line, was as cheap as I could find or close enough to not bother changing.

They charge for mods based on % of power increase. If you can convince them its purely for styling reasons you should get away with it. I did with my exhaust and "gear knob" (ahem short shift). Dont know if there is any age restriction on mods, I wouldnt have thought so.

Im with them for a similar reason, was nearly the cheapest and was the most convinient to buy. (i.e. online payment)

yeah my ducking car was sat ont eh drive for a week wiht brand new alloys wiht me not being able to drive it for a week thanks to direct line.

CIS do a thing where new drivers sign up and you automatically get 1 years no claims, even if you have only just passed your test, so thats already 25% off your premium

hmm, i want to go with a company that will give me a policy that will let me do anything (well almost) for mods?

P.S im 20, 21 in may, first years ncb will be in June, hopefully!!

any ideas?

The only way you are gonna do that is to go wiht one that specialises in modded cars. If you join, we have a deal wiht an insurence company and get discounts (i think).

Some of those policies which offer accelerated NCBs are not recognised by other insurers.
So you may not be able to transfere it to another insurer if they bump up the price the following year.

ok, here is how d/line works as regards mods. u declars your mod when getting a quote, if it is in a list on puter, then they add it, up 2 max of 6 if i remember correctly. if it is say a strut brace/quickshift u usually refer to underwriters, and they have the final decision. all this depends on the car, age, driving exp,points/convictions and/or claims. in all honesty phil u would b better off with a/flux or someone like cia. these guys r used 2 dealing with mods and know there stuff!! hope this is of some assistance.

L V dont charge for mods??? att all? why? bout time but why?? whats the snag??

feck me! Whats the number??

i had no end of trouble with directline, im with greenlight now and they actually treat me as a valued customer rather than a money making goat (dont ask)

I actually worked on the production of the web pages for the online Liverpool Victoria motor insurance site, gimme your reg numbers for a *special* quote ! LOL !

As for Direct Line, I found them very similar to my current insurers Tesco but just a little bit more expensive, Tesco were the cheapest for me.

Tesco are Directline..

I heard LV dont allow mods anymore (for free anyway)?? Can someone clarify?

LV are a lot more expensive that Directline but obviously worth it if you make thousands of pounds worth of mods, as i have. I got a 30% discount being with CSMA too!

Well if they are the same company they dont give the same quotes, Tesco came out cheaper than Direct Line for me.

LV dont charge because they found it cost too much to do the paperwork lol so couldnt be arsed anymore then removed the bit on the aplication system to remove the asking about mods lol so hence free mods :)

its not all about the yearly premium, direct line have been the cheapest by far for me, but the proof of the pudding is what happens when you make a claim. Two years ago I banged my last car, 1 fone call later and they picked it up on the back of a wagon, droped off a courtesy car, 1 week later, brought it back to my house, collected the courtesy car!! brilliant!!. After service should be a consideration!!!

Renault insurance are always cheapest for me. They seem to beat any other quote I get, without me even having to barter! Damn good service too.

You wanna ring Phil at HIC.

Definetly worth a try - I always thought other companies would be the lowest, but he beats them the best by about £300 usually, heh!

Tip for dealing with direct line, ring back with the same info about 4 times. I guarantee you someone will give you a lower price one of the times you call. When I was sorting our insurance out prices ranged from 1200 to over 3 grand! I dont know why they make such big mistakes with the prices but its worth doing

Try Brentacre, 01792 650933, I have been with them for 10 years with a Golf, last policy I had was for a max power of 230hp, with no other restrictions for around £600 fully comp. They have specialised in modified Golfs for years but thay will arrange similar cover for anything.

I agree. I made a claim with direct line for a 106XSI. They picked it up and within a week we had a cheque for the full value we had it insured at. No quibble, just a straight write off/payout

yea, D/line were the cheapest for me too, but its not much good if i cant have any mods until im 21/25 - nearly 21 anyways. will give LV and HIC a bell tomorrow, see what they say.

rang HIC and got a quote for £600, thats half price of D/line. not sure what theyd be like if i had to make a claim - hopfully i wont find out, anyways, that includes cover for any mods with a bhp of no more than 10 from standard.

not bad

really?!?? good stuff! as someone said earlier on in the thread, tesco are direct line, direct line underwrite tescos insurance for them so there shouldnt be too much of a difference between the 2.
