Disappearing oil

  Titanium 182

Just done a 1000 mile trip to Dawlish for a weeks holiday and back, checked my oil before I left and it was 1/3 way between both marks on dipstick.

Thought Id check it before I cam home Saturday and couldnt find any on the dipstick at all, dash then started flashing oil _ _ _ _ _ _

Girlfriends dad took me to a local garage and I purchased a litre of 5/40 fuly synthetic and chucked the whole lot in, drove it for a while and its now fine.

Checked the under engine for oil leaks (none), none from the top and was tailed the whole trip by my other 1/2s dad who said there was never any smoke ( i should hope not its only 3 months old with 5k on the clock).

Anyone any idea where my oil could have gone?

Booking it in soon for the 4k rattle and increasing clunking when rolling (never with throttle on?) from the off side front so Ill get them to have a check.

Enjoy the sun!

Neil

most new engines use oil till they are bedded in a bit , some use more than others , just keep your eyes on it for a while longer

Thats probably what it should use when its bedding in.

My 1.2 has used a notch of oil on the dash and its done 1500 miles.

If you think the dipstick is poor on a 172/182, try it with a bum basic 8v 1.2!!

I checked my other halfs oil just before doing a long journey and it was fine. On beginning the next journey the light was flashing at me!! Weird.

still running in mate big journeys do eat the oil. its the rings bedding in.Make sure you thrash the engine when warm at this point for extra loose engine power!!

Mine hasnt used any in 8000m, changed at 1000, and hadnt used any then either. Mines been raped from new and hasnt used a single drop - go figure.

My oil/serv light comes on when I park facing up a hill, and wont go out until I park facing downwards, turn engine off and on again!!

But if i check the sump level using the dipstick, the level is fine. The sensors are obviously placed at the front of the engine.
