Display & Steering Remote With Kenwood HU

Ive looked into getting my HU to work with the steering remote and the Head up Display, and have been told I need the following components:

KPHFD100
KPC9-712

When you add the cost of these up it comes to near £100, now that seems like alot of money to me just to get these two things working, have I been told correctly, or do I need something else???

the one for the blaupunkt is 50 quid, ive been told up to 70 though!! kenwoods are usually overpriced (apart from their kettles and irons) so it doesnt seem too out of the way!!

its probably a nightmare to fit though!! the interface seems quite big, so getting it to fit in somewhere will require taking the top of the dash etc off!!

Im starting to think that its not gonna be worth doing myself, its be a nice idea if Kenwood supplied their own head-up units yopu cvan replace the standard ones with, with minimal fitting complications....

Yeah thats gonna happen I think NOT!!!! :D

i replaced my standard hu and to keep the display and the steering wheel remote working had to replace a connector behind the display.

i had to remove the dash to, its not to hard.

i replaced it with kenwood stuff.

How much did the kenwood stuff cost??? Do you have the part numbers still? Was it for a kenwood HU????

Questions Questions....

kdc-8021 hu, i think i paid around £250 for it.

6 disc changer, not sure which one but paid around £90.

the connector was around £30 and i can not remeber the part number but any good dealer should be able to tell you what you require.

the whole lot sounds sweet.

Cheers shall look into it, Ive got a KDC-PSW9521, so may need the extra bits, Ill try a few other places before buying at £100 to get it working....

Got the unit, and fitted it although there was one cable coming from the lead that didnt seem to connect to anything, and when I turned my car back on it didnt work... The only symptom I can pick that might help to where this lead is supposed to connect to is the fact everytime i turn my engine back on it asks for the security code again...

Any Ideas???? Its been suggested it could be the lead needs to connect to earth, either that or to the continuous power lead.... Help..... :(

These cables are for connecting remote controls only; they will not enable radio information to be shown on a dashboard display should your car have this feature. References to dashboard displays are to aid vehicle identification only

oh and try the remote lead the interface requires power

The lead has a connector for the dash display, and refers to it in the instructions... The cable I dont have a place to connect to is green and yellow and comes from this lead... The remote does not work either.... :(

Possibly a duff lead?? Or does anyone know where to connect the green and yellow cable to???

If not guess Ill have to send the lead back and find another way of getting the dash display anmd remote to work... :(

it only refers to it because for some bizzare reason the remote runs through the display but doesnt actually use it my alpine one plugs into the back of the display but only operates the remote

For anyone who is interested......

I can get the leads to enable you to keep your steering controls compatible with Sony and Kenwood units.

Much better than Autoleads ones where you have to remove half of dashboard. Simply connect to ISO connection behind radio, and connect the yellow and green mini ISO plugs, then into back of radio.

Only £30

When connected, Renault display will display "SONY" or "KENWOOD" dependant on your HU

Anyone interested, post and we can take it from there.

;)

What Ill do is....

Take a few pics of the connection so you can see how EASY it is, and a pic of the display so you can see that. Then upload them.

Mines connected to a Kenwood but theres few diff to that of a SONY.

sounds very interesting im getting a kenwood dvd screen soon an that would be useful

Dan: Will these units work with the Kenwood M700? I have remote interface to infra red led in steering column fitted at moment for my kenwood mp3 unit, but apparently it will not work for the 7" screen and there is not one available form Kenwood, PM me if you can help

Thanks

Dan, or anyone else for that matter, what about alpine h/us do you know where you can get hold of the adaptors for them? not bothered about the screen just the stalk...

ta, ian

Hey Guys,

Not got round to sorting the info on them Kenwood and Sony stalk leads, been really busy. Dont worry aint forgot, just give me time.

Stalk control leads for Alpine sets are manufactured only by alpine, so for each car there is a diff Alpine part number. Cos they are made by alpine, there is a high price that comes with em a lot more than for most other brands (bout twice as much!!!)

I work 4 a Car audio shop so will be able to get hold ov most Stalk control leads, but dont know all prices of top of ma head??

For anyone whos interested Autoleads make an adapter for Sony Headunits that gives full functionality to the remote display and the remote control.

Code: PC9-501

Thats for ALL RENAULTS from 2001 onwards

I had a right game getting my Sony headunit working after trying 3 or 4 leads which my local audio shop said would work. They had to call up autoleads to find out exactly what was needed.

This one cost me £60 and gives full display including volume, radio station, track name etc. on the renault display

The only thing which doesnt work is the mute function which is usualy pulling both volume controls at the same time. This lead takes you to the sound adjustment menu.

Theres no need to remove the dash at all, all of the connections are made behind the HU. Only difficulty encountered was finding places to stash the extra wires and little metal box but the space behind the hazard lights button sorted that out :)

Strangely though it seems to get the information for the remote display from the cd changer output...go figure :D

Much better than just displaying SONY :)
