Distorted music in iTunes???

Apologies if this has been covered but I couldnt find anything...

Ok, I updated to iTunes 10.5 y'day & downloaded iOS5 for my iPhone (all without a hitch)

My problem is any files in my music library on iTunes which weren't purchased from iTunes or imported via a legit cd won't play properly - the songs are all distorted & sounds like pinky & perky on crack!! (basically any song that has been downloaded from another source e.g. Limewire etc)

The songs do transfer to the iPhone though & play fine through the device just not on my pc??? Any ideas why or is just a case of Apple cracking down on piracy....?

Have you tried re-installing iTunes?

That would be my first port of call. I'd probably re download iTunes too.

Ok I'll try re-installing iTunes when I get chance. Funny how it only seems to affect the downloaded mp3 files and not the rest??

I was only trying to get my old ringtone back on which is why I noticed the problem

It's an old pc running XP. New laptop in a couple of months though
