DIY bodywork help needed

Anyone got any tips for a bit of body work im doing. Ive taken the badges off the back of my car and there are some rust spots and other holes from removal of the rear wiper. So far i put aluminium mesh on the iside of the holes and use isoprom to stick it there, im then using isopron easy sand to fill the holes and sanding them flat. Im then going to use a zinc primer spray (previously using zinc primer paint on the rust spot). I will then spray with gloss black (its a white car, but a black tail gate will look good. Any hits or tips to get the finish as good as possible. Its an old car so im not going to pay someone to do it.

erm, u sure a black tailgate will look good??? i dont think so! if thats what u mean!

err, ye .. not too sure about the black tailgate on white car.. it will look like you just been down to the scrapies and picked up a new tailgate.
