DIY intake any problems

Hi all

After getting a piperx element for me rt i decided to make a cold air feed. I didnt have much luck tracking down any ducting so decided to have a go with the existing one.

Firstly i detached the end from the tube that goes into the wheel arch. I then unclipped the flap that directs air onto the radiator (the flap closest to the air feed - the smaller of the two flaps, the other ones about 3 times the size). I bent this flap back (towards the engine) and then put the air intake in there. The tube now sucks in air directly from behind the grill instead of from the inclosed wheel arch compartment.

Is there any probs i might cause by doing this? I just took it for a spin and the engine is actually running a bit cooler (although i think this is because i just cleaned a load of sh*t off of the sump etc.)

It might be all in the head but it seemed to get rid of the flat spots i had in early 1st and 2nd gears.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Dazz

so is it acting ram air stylee forcing air up the duct when youre movin?

gotta be better than an induction kit,

i heard somewhere the optimum air feed is 6inches off the deck where the air is coolest but then again i wouldnt go near puddles with it

yeah pretty much, it definitely makes a noticeable difference, especially in the lower gears. Il cut the plastic flap off eventually, im just testing it at the moment to make sure i dont cause any probs. So far, so good :)
