DIY power mods

right, got my car thru its 1st mot with a bit of work, so now its all set for another years drivin, im thinkin of tarting her up a bit.

at the mo its standard apart from a cat back scopion exhaust and a k&n panel filter. are there any other cheap DIY mods i can do to give a bit more power?

the spark plugs are upto 7.5k miles since they were last changed. do they need changing and what would you recommend?

finally im gonna get 4 new tyres of the 195 50 R15 type. i was gonna order off the net but my local tyre place can do me either a set of goodyears for £200 or firestones for about £190 including balnce, teack and alignment included. which should i go for?

any help on this lot would be appreciated - mike

Id say that a de-cat is the cheapest power mod you can do. Sound is not to everyones taste, but it does vary according to what system you have cat-back and mine is a lot more bearable than I was led to believe! The pops and flames make it worth it.

Dont forget that an open filter like the K&N will be losing you power in the hot weather, so if youve still got the original airbox it will certainly give you better acceleraive performance at lower speeds.

195/50/15 is probably one of the cheapest tyre sizes for performance tyres and youve got a lot of choice for the money. I got a set of Yoko A539s fitted for £160. Sounds like a good price for the Goodyears.

when was your distrubuter cap last changed ? and rotor arm , i just renewed them today and the car pulls much better !

might have a go at changing the leads.

been looking thru my service history and most of the stuff on the car is still original after 90000 miles.

its had the cambelt done, a new rad but aprat from that just tyres, brake pads and the usual service item stuff and it runs great.

prob end up with a massive bill for bits when they start goin wrong.

0-60 is in the low 7s so im fairly happy with car.

just had all 4 tyres replaced today. came to £230 for goodyear nct5s which i know is not brilliant, but lookin at mytryes reviews, they are better than the goodyear f1s. the two fronts were completly shot
