DIY Turbo

Iv been looking at the turbo kits from k-tec but couldnt justify spending over 6 grand. has any1 done the conversion by buying all the parts and fitting it by themself??

You can get T28's from 200sx's S13/s14/s14a/s15's if that helps.

You can also get a brand new gt28r (ball bearing) which can give about 330 max bhp for around £550 if you look around in the UK. If you buy an s15 dual ball bearing turbo from Australia, it may be even cheaper :)

(compared to £900+ that K-tec/bb want for a t28). If it is the gt28rs then it will be closer to £800+ from other vendors. but do not buy fake ones off ebay from buyers such as XS power.

You will also have to uprate your gearbox (or at least it is sensible) to cope with the additional torque, which will cost a bit extra.

k-tec are expensive as they are factoring in the cost of development of their kit.
They use a log manifold and downpipe i would get a proper manifold made up from the likes of BTB or similar.

Which would be 1/6th of the cost of the Ktec kit right off the bat.

Then you'll need the downpipe and the rest of the system.

Standalone ECU or find someone who can make the stock ECU boost aware.

Turbo

intercooling hardware, mounting and hard pipes.

so on and on.

FI conversions are never simple nor easy, despite what people will say of 'slapping' a turbo on. An engine which runs 11.2:1 CR as stock isnt going to like much boost off the bat without considerable charge temp control and water injection.

And once you start taking an engine apart costs spiral out of control.

mate i have done along your lines..aint worth it and as some one said the cost of doin it to your engine just isnt worth it..as u could get a runnin block from some where else for example i use insuranmce write off when possible with only back end damage and rip out the engine if it is kewl and drop it in.more cost effective.easier and just less hassle.look at it this way would u rather spunk 6k on a build or go buy a hooj mofo of an engine that will give you roughly the same output in power for 2.5 k and throw a few grand into tuning that up a bit on a remap and cams and stuff.

I was going to mention the CR as well....pretty important when adding a turbo.
