Do I need to jack up my car to use tyre foam?

  White R26/Stripped Valver
doesn't say anything about jacking it up on the foam can or is it an important bit which they decided to leave out?

I wouldn't have thought so

You have the jack so you can replace the tyre on the wheel you've just destroyed with tyre foam

Does a cup come with a jack?

Yes.

And I thought you did need to jack the car before using tyre foam. (At least someone told me I did when I suggested ditching the jack to save weight!) Does kinda make sense; as how is the foam going to fill the bottom of the tyre where it is compressed by the weight of the car? (I assume that is what the foam does: completely fill the tyre?)

no need to jack car up
make sure valve at top of wheel
if aerosol cold rub it in hands to warm it up
attach aerosol to valve with aerosol upside down
keep pressing down on button until empty
you may need to use two cans to carry out the repair.

complete waste f**king time. I had to use mine not knowing that it would buying a new tyre once used!!! What an utterly stupid design!!

any good experiences with tyre foam...

yes, I've used it once (genuine Renault stuff) and it worked perfectly

I didn't need to jack up the car..... the tyre doesn't get filled with foam, it just puts a thin layer of sealent around the inside of the tyre (this fills the hole from the inside) and also puts air in to the tyre as it's quirting in the sealent. When i took the car in for it to be replaced, they said "no need for a new tyre, we'll just wash out the sealent and plug the puncture"... marvelous i though  .... job done

Ive been told I should buy the holts stuff cos the renault stuff is shte, any1 know if there is a difference?

Has the tyre foams cans got enough pressure in them to inflate tyre properly ?

And how long can you run after using tyre foam ?

Or is it a temp fix ?

Obviously it won't inflate to the proper psi but a sufficient amount to be able to drive I suspect,on the can it says 6-12 miles and you can't exceed 30mph, so basically gives you just enough time to get to the garage lol

i wonder what you would do if you were in the middle of nowhere on a sat/sun night and you had to use it......fooked i rekon

Temporary. Apparently no more than 30 miles says the Renault can.

It's hit and miss to whether they work well or not. Depends on the puncture itself. One time it worked for me the other time it didn't.

Carry a spare wheel with tyre or tyre on it's own and have a mobile tyre fitting service place it on there if a puncture occurs.

Thats true, didn't think of it that way. Debating on whether to get rid of my spare tyre or not, i only every do short journeys, could put in back in if im going far out i suppose. Plus my jacks fooked :approve:

EDIT: lol seer how many punctures you had?

Carry a spare wheel with tyre fitted or spare tyre. At least an emergency breakdown will fit if any problems occur out of hours.

Waste of time tyre foam is, AA/RAC can temporary plug your tyre (normal puncture) which is good for 50mph, 250miles and doesnt cover the inside of the wheel with spunk

yeah i tend to only put spare in for long trips, e.g when i came to london.....

my jacks fooked too, snapped in half when i was jacking the car up

has anyone ever tried to size up a space saver ? maybe from the scrap yard or something?

Seems like a good compromise.

And what would be the call out charge for a mobile tyre fitter to come out, out of hours to middle of nowhere ?

no we dont, haveu seen the size of a tyre machine/patrol van? we plug it from the outside hence being temporary. if the tyre is worth repairing permanently the tyre fitter plugs from the inside

What kind of Renaults had space savers that'd fit the Ph2 172FF ?
Best option IMo is a spare.

All Clios (V6 and 197 excepted) and many other Megans etc use the same sized wheels PCD etc wise just offset which can be trouble but most are ok for spare.

You idealy want a 15 inch spare as it will go on any corner then else a 14 will do just if a front burst you need to swop a back to the frotn and stick the 14 on the back as it won't clear the front calipers.
