Do PS3's play normal DVDs?

Someone at work telling me no.... is this true?!?
was gonna use it as a replacement for my dvd player....

I dont need a PS3. Im not really bothered about BluRay and ive got a a 360 that I hardly use.

I can get GTA/PES2008 for my 360.

I really need to learn what all this VGA/component shizzle really means!!

the 360 normal dvd drive upscales dvd's as long as you use a vga cable. Best thing is now you can get hd dvds in wmv format that will play on the normal 360 drive without the need for the hd drive

not heard of this but they can't be true hd quality as they would take up way more that the 8.5gb a dvd offers surely?

no they are true hd mate, we've done a comparison side by side cos my mate has the hd drive. The wmv ones are just film only though and don't come with any menus or extras etc. I don't know if they're compressed or anything either

Is the rumour true that once you play a game on the PS3 it will not run on any other machine??

but how big are the files and where do you get them?

just can't see it myself

haha i promise you mate, to be quite honest i didnt believe it myself at first. You can download them from any torrent sites, just search for hd wmv.

I purchase mine from a site on the internet £2.50 each, can't really give the name as its probably not aloud on here

That's bullshit...otherwise the spate of pre-owned games you see in various gameshops would equate to a collection of coasters.

No it's not true.

It is true Dave

You get them from newsgroups or download sights. They are slightly lower quality than HD-DVD's and Blu Ray but to be honest on the sets we are using you wont see the difference.

I downloaded all the Planet Earth WMV files and compared them agaisnt the proper ones and could tell NO difference on my Panasonic and my old mans LG.

File sizes range from 8GB up to about 30GB

You simply play them over the network or via portable drive fella
