Do you just mash the throttle...

If youve got an RS Clio with traction control...when the weather goes all s*** like it is now...do you just bury the throttle in the carpet and let the TCS sort everything out for you?

Does TC make you a worse driver beacause you become used to the safety net always being there, as opposed to learning how to drive the car yourself?

Hi Mark,

No, I certainly dont anyway. Its a nice safety net to have but its not idiot proof and you can quite easily still get in a mess if you just floor it. Only time i ever get it slightly kicking in on the road is very occasionally pulling away out of a junction with lots of lock on in the wet.
It was useful to have when we had snowing and ice though as although again you still need to adjust driving to the conditions, it helps keep traction pulling out of slippery junctions and on slopes etc.

I find I never have it on anymore. Turning it off has become part of my routine when I get in the car for some reason.

Mk2 Ph1 172s dont come with TC.

One moment comes to mind, came out of a petrol station onto a dual carriageway and I was just sitting there spinning away in the wet, wasnt moving at all.

Im a bit easier on the throttle now though... :)

To answer your question though, i guess if as a driver you actually make regular use of it (i.e. your driving is such that it is kicking in all the time) then yeah, it would make you a worse driver, as it allows you to get away with it.

I tend to leave mine switched on driving on the road, but then i dont drive hard enough to get it kicking in anyway 99.9% of the time, and on the odd occasion i might see the light flicker, then its a sign to take it easy. On the track its switched off instantly of course.

I am a masher and it is fun leavin forty foot stripes from traffic lights. i just use it cos im too tight to keep springing for tyres. I agree though, it does make you a lazier driver. May have to turn it off and retrain myself.

Ive not ever had TC kick-in on my 182.... (apart from on the ring - understandabe).

IT was constantly going mad on the meggy when I had it.

I suppose Im used to cotrolling the car, as opposed to letting the computer do it for me - especially since Ive started doing track-days, airfields etc...

The TC sysytem on the Clio is dump. If you nail if from standing, it will still light up the tyres and take a few seconds to catch up with the fact they wheels are spinning. Even then it doesnt do a very good job of it.

Look at it another way, if you have TC on, then you also have ESP on which only slows you down. Stop being a gayer and switch it off.

I had TC on my last car, and I suppose I did get too used to it, as when I got my cup I had a couple of hairy moments where before the TC would have sorted it out.

Prefer not to have it though. I found a couple of times when I pulled away from a junction it kicked in and I just lost all power while it was trying to sort it out (this is in a new mini). A couple of times a car nearly went into the side of me cos I lost all power.

The Astra Ive got at the moment does the same thing - it kills all revs till its happy to start going again. Not good when youre desperately trying to escape from a junction as above!
