dodgy driveshafts???

  Silver Clio 172 Cup
If I floor my cup away from a junction i expect wheelspin but get a noise that sounds like driveshafts slipping on their splines. Is this possible/likely, or is it something else knocking under vibration or something? The car still accelerates strongly so it can't be that bad yet whatever it is!

Cheers

Tom.

Are the wheels spinning?

Most likly axle tramp rarther than driveshafts but driveshafts can get damaged.

If it's drive shafts then thats the least of your worrys, its not that.

Just sounds like traction loss to me.

the wheels do spin but it's accompanied by the unexpected nasty noise. Still goes fine, so I won't do anything about it yet.

I had the same problem and new drive shaft was needed, tell tale signs black oily type grease on the insides of your wheels due to the boot splitting.

As the torque builds up the wheel will try to lift the suspension up. As it does lift the wheels spins and therefor the upward force is lost and the suspension spring bangs it back down on the road. This happens pretty quickly and its hard to "see" it. Because of the shock that is going through the driveshafts it is not healthy for them. Usually a dying shaft will click/clack/click/clack on full lock. Hope this helps mate

Somebody will inform you better, but GTgaz's was doing this, he read up on here and we undid the four bolts on the O/S engine mount where it mounts to the body, and eased it forward a few mm's, all cured. Apparently its something hitting the subframe under load! either that or drive slower!

Thanks SBV - that could be it as the driveshafts seem otherwise ok and the cv boots etc are intact.

Anybody got any more info on this?
