Does a 172 cup gearbox fit into a standard 172?

Hey guys just as title asks will a 172 cup gearbox fit my phase 2 172?

my gearbox has a speedo on it aswell so was just wondering if this will fit my car?I no the 182's dnt have a speedo on

i hope they fit cos i got 1 goin into my 172 tomorrow ,correct me if im wrong i think they will fit but as above something to do with a speed sensor needs to be sorted

i wont no till friday m8 but from what i have read on here they will fit on a 172 but have probs with a 182 for some reason i searched everywhere to get 1 a bit cheaper so i hope the b*****d fits lol

iirc its only the ph1 gearboxes that have the cable speedo drive.all others run off the abs.

ahhh my bad cups do not have abs!! so cable drive may be correct but as the non cup has abs and it gathers the wheel speed info through that. So the box should not be a problem! i think you may have to plug the speedo drive hole as they seep a little gear oil iirc

Speedos on MK2 Clios are never cable driven. The ph1 and cups and some early ph2s have a speed sensor on the gearbox. Fitting a "sensor'd" gearbox to a car with speedo signal taken from the ABS will not be a problem. You just keep the speedo output on the box unplugged.

Any 1*2 box will fit any 1*2.

Ph1 172 and 172 cup boxes have speedo drives. These can be fitted to Ph2 172's and 182s with no issues, you just need to block the speedo sensor hole.

Ph2 172 & 182 box has no speedo sensor, so if you fit to a Ph1 172 or 172 cup you'll have no speedo.

ive got a ph2 172 with hole in the box, got a 1,4 16v box out of a ph1 in garage, will that fit just to move car about till i get a proper box in? or not?

Phase 1 are all speedo drive and.need a speedo drive to run the speedo.

Some early phase 2 also have the drive in box.

Cups have speedo drive in box

So the avove need a speedo drive box.

Later 172 ph2 and 182 use abs

And you can use either speedo box or none speedo box
