Does my 172 have an alarm as standard?

When i had my insurance document it said mnufacturers cat 1 security, does this mean it has an alarm or just an immobiliser? Its a 04 plate 172.

Cat 1 means it has an alarm and an immobiliser.

yeah cat 1 means like level 1.there is also a cat 2.insurance will be cheaper with a car with a cat approved alarm.

if its an import then its very unlikely you will have a factory fitted alarm, only cars supplied by a renault uk franchised dealer come fitted with factory unit.

So if you have an import (I do) which doesn't have an alarm, do you need to specifically declare this to your insurance company? or will it be marked as an import on some document somewhere that the insurance company will have access to?

its better to tell them, as failure to disclose will make your insurance void, just because they dont ask doesnt mean they dont need to know

Hmm, thats what I thought really. Guess I should tell them. I didn't really realise when I bought the car that it was an import , so never thought to tell them when I got my insurance.

ok cheers guys its an import, thought it didnt have an alarm! Guess i better tell the insurance too.

So do all UK Phase 1's come with alarms then? What are the tell-tale signs that a 172 is an import?

To tell if its an import, if won't have the red flashing light near the gear stick, it won't have locking wheel nuts & it won't have the windows etched.
I think that thats about it.

Ok cheers, will have a look next time I see the guy's car I want. There is red flashing light, but I think it was coming from nearer the steering wheel / speedo than by the gear stick, is this the one and the same and I just wasn't paying enough attention to it!?!

Ah right, will have to have a closer inspection. Whereabouts are the window etchings on the UK spec'd ones?
