does the head gasket need paste?

hi, i drive a 98 mk1 1.2 clio biarritz.

Im replacing valves and i was wondering if the head gasket needs paste when i put in the new one?

I'd say no personally. But check that your surfaces are not warped.

Never put anything else but the gasket! As stan said, clean and flat.
