Does the outer c.v joint knock off....

or do I need to remove the shaft from the box end (n/s) and remove the spider, then inner boot then slide the outer c.v boot off? I'm changing the outer boot after work, and i'd like to get it done with minimal fuss!

When I did my 182 outer cv boot (n/s) it knocked off, it did take a bit of a whack though! Theres a circlip on the shaft, im not sure if theres a better way of doing it?

If you do this, care to take some pics and write a mini guide? I've been told by a garage its so much effort to do, its better to just fit another shaft....

Assuming you are talking about drivers side that is...

Nop, doing the passanger side. If the garage are saying its easier to fit a shaft, i'd say they arn't the most compotent garage! A genuine Renault boot is costing me £15, and i'd usually charge an hours labour on top. Cheers Ian, will get whacking.

Sorry I'm talking drivers side, (I must confess I cannot remember n/s & o/s) they said something about the shaft having to come apart to put the boot on as they are plastic so can't stretch around?!? Meaning the amount of labour etc would mean its easier to just change the shaft?

Most garages wouldnt charge anymore to fit a boot over a shaft, as the same parts have to come off to do either job. Its just a case of removing the shaft, knocking the joint off, replacing the boot and re-fitting.
