DONT DO THIS !!!!!

  Titanium ph1 turbo

Dont make the mistake I made today with my clio cup, and attempt to extend the nosle of a bottle of oil whilst resting it on your engine bay area. I pulled up the spout and it broke and came off but caused the bottle to jerk up spilling new oil all over the left area of the engine. It went all over my alternator, cambelt, and all over the surrounding areas !! what a knightmare. I spent an hour using soft tissues to try and clean it up best I can, but I fear the oil has gone into the altenator itself. I ran the car afterwards for a good 10-15 miles and it seems ok. When I got home the movement of various components has spayed the oil in an outward direction so once again I cleaned this all up. I just hope it doesnt have any long term effects. I was more bothered about it getting on my cambelt and all over the wheels etc, but it now seems pretty dry. Thats what you get for buying sh*tty garage own brand performance oil where they dont bother investing in a quality design of the bottle itself. :/

Also, am I right to be using 5w 40 performance oil ? I wasnt sure what to buy, its to top up the existing oil as it had came up with "NO OIL" warning light on my dash along with the SERV light.

yeh the handbook is a bit b****cks, it doesnt make it very clear and gives this chart which would be useful only to a rocket scientist to follow.

I topped mine up with some valvolene fully synthetic, dont know what the rating is but it was expensive so it should be ok :D

well if you have a cup why would you want to buy some garage own brand performance oil anyway?!

because i was driving down the motorway and "NO OIL" lit up on my dash so rather than take a risk I stopped at the nearest petrol station and thats all they had. better to have garage own brand than potentially damaging the engine due to lack of oil :)

Yes...

New cars can & do use oil for the first few thousand miles!

Any good quality semi-synthetic is fine for topping up.

Mine was parked on a hill and read "no oil" once. Wierd!

I had to top mine up @ about 5 k miles as it was down to the 1/4 empty mark and the light came on, topped it up then got it changed that weekend.

Ive noticed that the oil warning light comes on when the oil level is only slightly past the halfway mark on the dipstick...

If the cambelt/alternator belt was soaked with oil, it might be a good idea to get them changed as belts contaminated with oil usually fail prematurely.

As long as its ACEA A3 rated then its fine.

Use 10W40 as recommended though...

They put castrol magnatex in mine at the last service (renault dealer)

So there shouldnt be any warranty problems now and i know what oil to use when i have to top it up:D

This is what Captain Slarty (car expert for those that dont know of him) recommended to use for the 172 engine, after plenty of research, so its what Ill use too if I do an intermmediate oil change...
