Door Locks, how do they work?

Anyone have any idea how the door locking system works on the mk2ph1??

My passenger door doesnt open with the central locking, or the key, so I'm guessing its the unit that is controlled by the locking/key....

So my question is, what is it that I need to replace? i.e what controls the actual door lock? As I have no idea

The actual lock you can see? On the edge of the door? Or something totally different.

Have you tried taking the door to bits mate and f**king about with stuff? Only takes 10 mins to get the door off :)

Maybe its something really obvious

I will be doing that very soon, but I just wanted an idea of what controls what first...

The door locks but doesnt unlock, so I'm guessing something is just broken....

If I unlock the door from inside, the door unlocks from the outside from that point forward until I lock it again.

Sounds odd man! Good luck...

Take photos of stuff before you take it to bits by the way lol

LOL! Is the locking system complicated then? I've taken the door cards etc off my old one 100 times so that bit won't be an issue.

So you don't know what actually makes the door lock? Is it just the catch on door end?

Massive guess maybe it can't pull itself back up, and I played around with a bit, having a look at how it work, it just clamps up or down, but I could move it with my hands, so I think it could be fubar'd

Not a clue mate. If anythings broken on my car i just take it to pieces and see if its anything obvious.

I do remember the locking system not being overly complicated though. There wasn't many wires in the door leading to the lock. If its something simple id say it should be fairly obvious straight away.

Try comparing it with your drivers door too!

Well its not something missing etc, as it worked when I picked the car up, worked all the way home, stopping 3 times, got home, 160 miles later, that evening, it didnt work. lol!
