Downloading MSN Messenger Onto A Netbook

I've got a new Samsung NC10 netbook that I got at xmas and I'm having trouble downloading MSN messenger onto it. I'm downloading it from the following site:

http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

I click on Get It Free then when I go through the various options then save and run MSN a "Windows Live Installer" message box appears saying:

"Messenger - not installed.......get help with this" and "Sign-In Assistant - not installed.......get help with this"

When I click on the "get help with this" it tells me to check my internet connection and firewall settings. I've even disabled all firewall settings and plugged in the internet cable to the modem (to ensure the wireless isn't playing up) to eliminate these.

Can anyone suggest anything that can help me?

Assuming this comes with XP or Vista already on??

Yes - Windows XP is the pre-installed operating system.

i didnt have any problems with installing messenger. ive got exactly the same netbook. have you downloaded the latest edition of internet explorer?

i think its 8.2 beta.

Mate i wouldnt even use Beta :O heard so much bad stuff about it, go and download IE7 and stick with that then get IE8 when its a full release

Try the IE7 first, if all fails come back on ere let us know

^^^Ok, cancelled the IE8.2 Beta and now downloading IE7.....

go into ur IE and go to help click on about Internet explorer, what version as come up as if uve done updates im sure IE8 Beta will already gone on

Right mate what u wanna do is Install IE7 all the installations u have of msn delete, go back to the live Messenger site, click get it free, next page untick all that crap which they want u to install aswel, then click install and when the box appears click to save it on ur desktop

Ok run the installer, press accept, untick the crap again and press install, it will start

Then u will get alot of stuff in there jst TICK THE BOX where it says MESSENGER do not tick ne thing else and press add to installation

When its done let me know

^^^I downloaded IE7 last night then was told to go to "Tools" and select "Windows Update" (I think) after I had rebooted the netbook as specified. When I launched IE7 I selected "Windows Update" from the "Tools" menu but this then came up with a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" message as if the internet wasn't on

so I called it a night around 1am.

I'm going to try this again tonight but I'm wondering if there is some IE7 setting or netbook setting that is preventing downloads/pop ups/etc......

If it doesn't work I have a mate who has MSN messenger on a Flash Drive than I can try using.........

Are you truly drunk? MS don't put Betas out through Windows/Microsoft Updates.

I think you've just consigned yourself to retire from the Technical section of this site...

Ensure you've got Service Pack 3 installed, and Windows Internet Explorer 7 might be a good idea but I think mainly you need the new Windows Installer framework for WLM now.

I was just going to say I have just started setting up a new laptop and it won't doesn't like MSN straight away, I've not done it yet but I'm 99% sure windows update will sort you out.

Well last night I went in to "Windows Update" from the tools menu and I was able to download and install the 28 items that were required to bring the netbook bang up to date. Once this had all been completed I retried downloading and installing MSN. Finally it downloaded and is working.

Martin I was under the impression u had already done a Windows update. Glad everything is working fine mate, any more probs give us a shout

Shut the f**k up, I am not your 'pal' and indeed DO know what I'm talking about. If I don't know, I'll ask. It's a courtesy I pay people, called not f**king them about. You are a pub expert who appears to have set up shop.

Nobody mentioned what I drive - yes I used to have a 1.5 dCi. You know what, it was the best car in the world! It handled like a 182 (yeah, I had one of those you presumptuous t**t) and did nearly 70 to the gallon EVERYWHERE.

That's been changed now, tomorrow I decide whether I want a Scirocco TSI or a Golf GTi Pirelli. By the by, but as you brought my motor into it I thought I'd stop that flat on your face.

You incorrectly advised, and stamped clean on the correct advice of other users. When I'm bored here at work, as it's my last week this week, I'm sat here helping people with their issues. You know - give and take. When I had my 182, this forum helped me no end with it. With my dCi, any issues I had had already been covered on here and as such I had a fix already. It's only fair that I put back into the community.

As for my looks, you've never met me. If you quite fancy yourself, lucky boy. I know my fiancee is quite happy with the way I look and tbh that's all I give a shite about. I'm happy, she's happy - what else do I need? My mates don't have to find me attractive - much less some badly-educated, jumped up pillock on an internet forum. If I was here to flash my looks I'd not be on cliosport.net - I'd be wandering around a dating forum (although at times GC does feel a bit that way).
