drink driving and insurance....

  172 M69 eater
if you were drink driving and crashed your car would the insurance still pay out??

not me... one of my stupid mates...

someone I know never told the insurance about the drinking part and they paid out! he was in an accident when he was 3 times over and the only car involved.

theyll only pay for any other vehicles etc you damage.

my mate did it a few years back - wrote off 3 other parked cars and put his on top of a wall..... very stupid!

he got nothing.....

The insurer may also seek right of recovery from the drunk driver for any outlay they pay for third party damage.

If they took the drunk driver to court and the person couldn't afford to pay back the Third Party claim costs the insurer would have the right to an 'attachment of earnings'. Meaning that a proportion of any wages earned would go to the insurer until the claim was paid back.

One of my mates wrote off his car and the car that he ran into. (parked car), but because my mate was drunk he got out of his car and legged it to his mates, and then when the police came they asked wether he had been drinking, and he just said yer, I had a few shots to calm me down, and he got away with it. lol

One guy did the same here, except he hadn't been drinking prior to the smash. Legged it when he totalled his car and by the time the police caught him, he'd already had a couple of drinks.

Needless to say he'll still be paying £1,500 TPFT on a B-reg Micra....

nope, as youd be breaking the law which makes your insurance void

Surely by the same token, if one is speeding, their insurance should be void too?? ;)

You're all assuming that the drink caused the accident.

Government stats are wrong because in ALL accidents where the driver is under the influence, the accident is blamed on the drink?

Anyways, it'll all be in the terms and conditions of insurance somewhere, but I'd mitigate that the drink had not caused the accident. "I sneezed" is very believable this time of year.

true, but its just the way the insurance company will react. Quick enough taking your money but paying out is another story

Speeding if proven can also void you're insurance ;) anyway they can opt out of paying they'll take

my ex missus crashed her mg tf a year back, she had only had 2 wines across a long night and a meal but was found over the limit, it was her fault and her insurance company paid out.

They said drink driving was a police offence or DVLA offence and didnt effect the other (cant remember now which one)

They paid out within 3 weeks... think insurance was directline or tesco???

my mate did this . he crashed in to a wall . they paid out for him too . i think as long as the police doesnt get involed he should be ok , and make sure you make up a good story on how you crashed .
