drinking to much fuel

HI i have an old 98 r reg clio 1.4rt which is now drinking way too much fuel. its averaging 27/28mpg which is way down.

What should i check and or renew??

All help appriciated as my wallet is getting empty witht he amount of petrol im sticking it it

al tyres pressures are fine, car has had a service and it still drinks way too much fuel.

I have a new lambda sensor arriving tomorrow morning and im also gonna buy the removal socket,

Is there anything i need to do other than unpluging the conector?

I ask as ive a feeling its gonna be a bugger to get out. For a start it looks tight and rusty/seised.

All help appriciated.

P.s if this doesnt work what else could it be?

its worth a try mate thats one of the first things i would replace

it looks a bugger to get out,

yeah its a bit of a pain jst take the whole exhaust off (if u can) by removing the 2 10mm bolts holding it to the exhaust manifold. (id get some wd40 on them a few hours before as they are quite tight)
