Drive shaft issue

Hi on my 172 I’m having trouble with o/s drive shaft.the sleeve on the end keeps sliding into the gearbox seal,then end up with a fooked seal.last time I put four spot welds on and it’s broken them all off and done it again,this is the 3rd time in about 150 mile.any ideas cheers

The drive shaft must be pushing it inthen returning. Is the bearing ok on the driveshaft on the back of the block

The bearing seems fine,there doesn’t seem to be any play anywhere,thinking about welding the sleeve to the shaft all the way round

It should have a rubber o ring on gearbox splines to stop that happening

Yeah there is an o ring there but doesn’t seem to stop it happening,I’ve ordered some more seals and o rings when I put it bk together.

Mine was missing so I put universal one on and as it wasn’t genuine Reno one the shaft went over it genuine one is a lot more chunky
