Driveshaft for Gripper Diff?

Hi All - just had a Gripper Diff fitted to my 2002 172 Cup and seems my passenger side driveshaft is too long! It knocks badly. Is this a known problem and does anyone know where I can buy a shorter replacement shaft? Thanks in advance

Many thanks for your very swift response. Much appreciated. Yesterday I went to collect the car from the gearbox specialist and didn’t even get into third gear before the heavy vibration started - even when driving straight and coasting in neutral! Turning made it even worse. So took it straight back at no more than 20mph. The specialist diagnosed the issue as being driveshaft related so I had to leave the car with him until I can provide a suitable replacement. Thanks again

Yeah the Euro shaft makes a difference, a mate of mine put a PH1 shaft in I think
I’ve just ordered the GKN Lobro 304959 shaft from Euro Car Parts. The spec quotes 640mm length. So fingers crossed.

You can also move the engine as far over to the drivers side to try and alleviate the problem.

You should’ve been told this by whoever fitted the diff mate really - it’s such a common occurrence!

Tbh fitting the Gripper with a 5.25 crown-wheel and pinion has been a pain from the start. The description when buying the parts says “fits all Clio 2 RS models”. No mention that the inside of the two halves of the casing will need fettling to accommodate the larger crown-wheel or that a shorter drive shaft will be required for the passenger side. Seems the length of the new pinion shaft can be a tad variable too, thereby affecting the meshing / engagement of the pinion with the crown-wheel. No problem if you’ve seen all these issues before but it’s extremely frustrating when finding out for the first time - when a few simple tips could be added to the websites where this stuff is sold.
I don’t have the facilities to remove the gearbox nor have anywhere to leave the stricken car while the gearbox is sent to someone like yourself, so resorted to taking the car to a local transmissions guy and just handed over the box of new parts + Redline GL4 oil. He provided all the new bearings and seals - neither of us expecting so many issues with the rebuild.

I had Dave Mac propshafts in Coventry make me a shorter + stronger driveshaft.
