Driveshaft gaitor split!!!

Car  Clio T 314hp c43 AMG
Hi guys

My drivers side inner gaitor has split on my 172, just wondering.........

1, is it a easy job, does the shaft just pull out of the box?
2, can i just buy a gaitor kit or is it a complete shaft?
3, am i going to lose any oil from the box when i change it?
4, and has any one got a shaft for sale?

Thanks guys your feed back would be a great help

Scott :approve:

If its like my valver then for drivers side you don't have the drain the oil, you can buy boot kits which are pretty cheap circa £10 isn't difficult depending on the tools you have, you might have to take the shaft to a garage to get the boot on properly/clips tightened.

as above posts changing a 172 gaitor is virtually the same as a valver. driveshafts arent that cheap id rather spend £30 on a gaitor and spend a bit of time getting dirty

i paid £61 for full shaft and cv joint. if it drys up is horrible mate. mine was crunchin and wobbilin me steerin wheel.

GSF do drive shafts but I am not sure if they do one for the 172. When I had my 5GTT when the gaitors split I would buy a complete shaft. GSF do an exchange service as well.

The car I have now clio 172 on an 03 had a new drive shaft fitted with the previous owner.

I could tell Renault had done it, because they didn't even bother cleaning the inside of the wheel it was thick with grease. Lazy people.

All this changing drive shafts business over a split gator, fook that, for less than a tenner for a boot kit and a bit of effort, job done.

common issue and as renault do under warranty is best to get a new shaft. think its around £150 for the part iirc.

Its only best if you dont mind spending an extra £140 or £100 for a garage to replace.

I cannot believe people are talkin about a whole new shaft just for a burst gaitor. the cost like a tenner and im no mechanic and i can fit them easy enough...
