Driving style for a BRAND new car





I know this has been asked, i have asked it, but the time is near, my car is due next week!

Its a 1.4 Dynamque. How shall i drive it, carefully for the first 500 miles, or give it some stick for a while or drive it normally.

Can this be put in as a poll?

Drive steadily through the rev ranges. Dont cane until after run in.

Unless you are only keeping it for a couple of years. Then rag until heart content.

i am intending to keep the car for a fair while (more than 3 years). AT LEAST.

Will take things easy for first 500 miles then, jsut so everything is ok, then i will "kane" the car for a bit, but then return back to normal driving.

I ran my 182 in very gently.... 500 miles at constant 60 on motorway (done in two journeys, so very few cold starts).

It used 1.5L of oil in 12k - apparently more than average, but within tolerable limits.

People commented on how much slower it felt to theirs, but then it was new.
 


Best way for power is to give it some revs on in in the first 20miles you need to do this to bed the rings oin so they make a good seal.

Dont nanny it else it will burn more oil and make less power.

I went far to easy on my 172 and it never paid me back for it. The 182 was still run in only not as sofly softly and it goes just how it should. :D

The 172 I kept it below 3.5k for 625 miles then upped it a little until at 1000 miles I was driving normally.

The 182 I kept it below 3.5k most the time up to 100 miles, then started upping it, by 625 I was back to normal driving.

Having run two of my cars in far too softly and one not quite as softly I can certainly notice a difference. Unless two of the cars were just had examples. What Edde says makes perfect mechanical sense though.

Whatever you do, make sure its fully warmed up first.

What Omar said about a constand speed is supposed to be a bad way to run an engine in, it needs variation but not caning or excesive labouring.

^^ I think hes right. Mines getting a bloody good seeing to from day 1 - just not putting the engine under excessive load.
 


as soon as mine has oil temp ill be opening it up, not bouncing off the limiter but getting the revs up and forcing the rings out. no fannying round keeping below 3.5k revs for me

unfortunately that isnt the way to do it, you need the revs to be pretty varied, rather than have them sitting at the same amount for a long period of time

Same with mine too.
 


as soon as the car is warm, give it a doing, all this waer it in gentle stuff seems a load of crap. warm her up and AV IT!

run it in carefully, all manuals for cars suggest this. Worth it in the long run.

others wont agree, whatever you are comfortable with at the end of the day.
 


such a varied amount of posts here.

I would probably keep the car, but its only 3 door, not praticle for starting a family, with the lack of access to rear.

I think i will do a bit of both, use the full range of revs when warm, but ease the car into life.
 


They seem to go faster if you thrash them from new but it wont last as long. You probably better increasing the revs it stages or you can loose some power.
