Driving with coilovers

  PH1 iceburg
I have had my coilovers fitted since january (roughly 9 months). I had them set quite low as i like the look of sports lowered, i know this will go against all the hardcore track dayers out there. I think though i have taken for granted how good the roads around where i live are. Im quite lucky to have relatively smooth roads with limited speed bumps.

I drove to Reading today to see the folks, and fcuk me the roads are bad. I have already taken to watching the road ahead of me for little dinks and avoiding them (mistaken for drunk driver many times). It made me question the how low i have the car.

On the other hand i was annoyed at the state of the roads around, some of the craters ( i mean literally ) in the road are unbeleiveable. What the frig do the councils do about? Bugger all.

Should have gone in the missus car me thinks.

Keep the coilovers for track me thinks

iv done 40k with mine, been setup twice, im used to it, but it is rock solid and not to all tastes.

I luv the rocksolid feel in suspension, jus feels hardcore and purposeful.

Maybe I'm just getting old but unless I'm on flat smooth roads, I can't stand having to slow down to a crawl to negotiate speed bumps and pot holes. My old FRP ZS was extremely low and stiff and I was constantly catching my exhaust and manifold on things. Don't get me wrong when I was in the mood for some spirited driving I loved it but as soon as the roads got rough it pissed me off lol.

London roads are worse than Reading. In my 1.4 it wasn't so bad, noticed it a lot more in my 172, dreading going there on coilovers now lol

i emailed a complaint to my local council about the state of a road i have to travel on at least twice a day, they phoned me the next day to say it was being dug up by the gas board in august, which it has and then they'll resurface it in october

also in the week i was away on hols they've put loads of speed bumps in the town near me, about 20 of the f*****s  .................will have to take the bike in more so i can ride between them :rasp:

They take the piss with those speed bumps don't they? There's a road in Irlam, it's just a sea of huge pot holes and cracks yet they decided to put those huge speed bumps on it and not bother repairing the road. It's not like anyone could do anymore than 15mph down there without damaging their car anyway.

tell me, think the speed bumps are just another way to try to stop people taking their cars into town

we've lost 2 big car parks with a new shopping centre being built - hello, your building a shopping centre when there are loads of empty shops in the centre which have closed due to the recession :S

and now they've closed one of two of the main streets through the town for 3 months because of this new centre and we are diverted where all these new speed humps have been put in place :dead:

People do realise coil overs don't have to be firm? Possible to have the same rates as standard if you wanted...
