Driving with no backbox

  clio williams 2
I don't know if this is where i should be putting this, if it's in the wrong place i'm sorry.

I have bought a new Mongoose backbox for my Williams as my Scorpion was buggered!
I have managed to get the old scorpion off, after a lot of banging with a big mallet:) but now i can't get the Mongoose on! So i am going to have to get a "proffesional" to do it for me, might sound silly, but is it ok to drive without a backbox?

The car itself is fine to drive without a backbox, won't do any damage to it.

It's illegal due to noise regulations though.

It will be very load and depending on the engine tunning mapping etc it might lose a load of power I driven for a bit without one and it was just as quick realy but the noise way something else I'm suprised I didn't set the noise meters off on track.

Don't think he's doing it intentionally mate;)

I don't recommend it. Mine fell off on the motorway; drove 25 minutes without it. My ears were ringing all day!!

Lol, yeah I experienced the same when I had an hour motorway journey to make with half the exhaust sat in my boot... uncomfortable.

I once drove round the block with just the manifold on, made me jump when i started the thing, was just a tad bit loud ;)
You'll be fine with no backbox, probably be about the same loudness as a straight thru system.

If your gonna drive round with it throw the old backbox in your boot with the new one well if youve still got the old so as if you get pulled you can say it just happend and your off to get it fixed :)

On one of my early cars (renault 5) the exhaust came off at the manifold.....what a noise...f**king loud.

I would advise putting it in the boot though incase you get pulled so you can make some BS up about being on your way to get it fixed:D

ive done it on my RS-1 at xmas when the magnex backbox came off whilst driving
it was very very loud, wouldnt recommend because of the noise

Also felt a noticable drop in power... although it may just have been me not gunning it as much due to the noise!

My 309 GTi exhaust feel off down pipe back, never heard anything like it driving home at 2am! Ear plugs would have been nice.

The rearbox fell of my 306 a few weeks ago, drove it 12 miles to get a new one fitted, that was fairly quiet to be honest.

Lol, sorry if i didn't make it clear, i am only going to be driving it to the garage to get it put on, it is far too loud without it!

It'll be fine, drove my 172 for about a week without a backbox! Asked my policeman neighbour if it was ok and was told taht if it did fall off I'd get a vehicle rectification notice which gives me 7 days to fix it so nothing major
