Dropping out of gear when planting it

  Trophy #392
Basically as above sometimes when I hammer it in first it pops out of gear it's mainly when it wheel spins and the car judders, if I hold the gear stick and do exactly the same it stays in place any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like your car has had enough of being driven like a c**t.

Mine pops out from 1st to 2nd if im giving it some, but if i hold the stick in place its fine with it, your gearbox must have had it!

What's the point of buying a sport an not driving fast that don't make sense does it

Theres driving fast and theres driving like a belter. You are the latter.

If your cars broken (the fact its jumping out of gear should tell you this...) why would you still drive it like a belter but try and hold it in gear??? My 3 year old wouldn't even do that.

Chances are your gearbox mount is knackered but after your little exploits don't be suprised if the box is now knackered aswell.

It's been doing this since I got it so I don't blame it on my driving, plus what's the difference between driving fast and belting it there's only one red line

Are you being serious? Please tell me you're really intelligent and are just trying to mock me.

Nothing wrong with driving fast, but hammering it in first WILL break the car, they have weak box's that don't like to be abused/rushed through changes.

I didn't buy a sport to drive slow don't see the point I might aswel have bought a 1.2 clio

You're not listening.

Driving fast is good, we all like to drive fast. Fair play, thats why we all love cars.

4000rpm and dumping the clutch so it wheelspins, the gearbox bounces round the engine bay and you hanging onto the gearstick to keep it in place is not driving fast. Its driving like a pillock.

Can you see where we're coming from?

Honestly Officer ;) Mines done this once. It's either mount related, or GB. Hopefully it's the first of the two.

Lol it doesn't, mine never has a fast take of, and only slowly up to 4k in first, gets death after that though.

  Trophy #392
Did I say I was dumping the clutch at 4000rpm or anything even like that? If ur on about wheel spinning this is purely from my foot to the metal. And I don't do this everytime I pull off! I havnt caused this either as it's been doing it since I bought it so the previous own must have loved dipping the clutch at 4000rpm

In fareness, there isn't much point as it just spins up anyway when you floor it with the traction control off.

182's aren't good for standing starts, and clutch/Gb don't like it. Not worth the pending bill imo.

dont think the boxes take much stick compared to others if not driven properly/abused, like any car though but the clio is a little less forgiving. Mines does it in third but thats cos i missed the gear on the strip.

What i found out is that its a combination of things, earbox mount under the battery, few bolts might need tightened there, dogbone mount bushes, replace these with powerflex ones and you will get less play/movement in the gearstick and it improves the feel of the gearchange alot. and lastly its probably needing an oil change from being abused by whoever.

Drive it how you want it, its yours after all lol, every forum has it's fair share if you know what i mean. if you want to "belt" it in first? so be it! but remember, harder you drive your car the more care it will need!

Least there's one normal person on here don't see why some people have bought a sport to drive like a granny! It's like the old Asian men that buy BMW m3s an not once put their foot down :s waist of money imo

Just because it's a midly sporty car, doesn't mean you have to boot it everywhere all the time.
I hardly ever take mine over 4000rpm when i'm running to work/shops, but it gets used properly when it is safe to do so, such as on a track.

Lol i think they are saying dont do 4 or 5k launches with it as it wont last long. Not that you do that. But my first gear is fine and i have had my car for 3 years and gave it total death once its warmed up in every forward gear. Still on its original clutch aswell and theres plenty life left in it.

I can assure you all of my cars take a lot of s**t.

But none of mine have w4nked gearbox mounts and I don't do wheelspins.

It shouldn't pop out anyways, check mounts. I can floor it in first, 2nd, 3rd ... 5th and none pops. Either box or mount issue.

Agreed.

lol @ the nancy who said "I always take it easy and change at 4k rpm."

I give it death in first all the time, take it to just before 7k, I always make sure I'm off the clutch before I do though and it's only ever popped out once when I think it was wet.

Also to the nancy who spoke about traction control, who needs traction control? Your right foot is the traction control.

However, I do think the op must have launched it at high rpm for it to pop out of gear all the time and I agree with what Daniel has said.

  Evo 8 MR
It mainly does it in the wet, an I never launch it

Get some powerflex bushes for the dogbone mount, makes a massive improvement to gear changes and the general feel.

If your wheels are spinning btw it means you are driving too hard for the conditions, this time of year the roads are a nightmare, just take it easy is my advice. That's not to say drive like a granny, just be more gradual in putting the power down.

the CS band wagon is terrible sometimes,

all he said was jumps out when planting it,

and everyones assumed that he:
sits in mcdon carparks,
wheelspins EVERYWHERE
and drives everywhere foot to the floor!
is a chav that races everyone on the road.

for all you know, he could have been the most sensible driver in the world, and only plants it in second and third to get up to speed on sliproads,
this forum is far to quick to judge sometimes and shameful. if you own a cliosport and your foot never hits the floor, then you putting money on insurance, tax and other things down the drain.

on a lighter note, its more probs the mounts,
go for polly bushed dogbone mount and see if that solves it,
then get a new gearbox mount under the battery.

good luck

That's just crap. Some of the quickest drivers I know are incredibly smooth and kind on the car.

The point you seem to be missing is this. He's found that the box is popping out of gear. Rather than take things easy and get it checked out, he continues ragging it in 1st, but holds it in place. Whichever way you look at it, that's f**king retarded.
