Drove a 182 on Saturday..

Went car hunting with a mate of mine on saturday... Im pushing him in the 182 / CUP direction... so we went to Renault in Ashford and drove their blue 182 Full CUP spec.... We both went out seperately with the salesman so as not to weigh the car down...

David really like it and will prolly get one.. he wanted me to drive it as a comparison between that and my 172 CUP.. Sounds good to me...

first thing i noticed when getting in, was just how quiet it was.. the break pedal wasnt as firm as mine.. (as it has ABS).. when on the test drive the turn in wasnt as good, and just generally feld a bit gooey.. in comparison to mine.. i also felt that it wasnt as quick as, as mine realy pulls hard from about 3 1/2 - 4000 rpm all the way to the limiter.. (but think my K&N may have helped there..)..

This isnt a I hate 182s rant.. just my opinion..... far from it.. Its just the car was far too soft for me.. needless to say I think my CUP is far better than a 182 helped by its rawness...

I dont think the sales man was tooo happy sitting next to me.. as he went very quiet on a few occasions... and i was taking it easy.. LOL..

yeh but a new 182 wouldnt have opened up as much as urs probably only had a few thousand miles on it surely!

David.. I did consider that, but it had done about 9500 miles.. so wont be as loose as mine but should still be ok..

my 182 feels sharper turn in than the 172 ever was (as std) it pulls harder from lower down and although not as good as a coilovered car i would describe it as soggy. there does seem to be "good ones" and "bad ones" as far as the engine is concerned and they do go better with more miles under their belt. worth taking that into consideration.

Maybe Soggy, isnt the right word, but it just didnt have the bite that mine has.. and thats with 205 on as opposed to my 195 Contis.. (maybe its the tyres..)

Arent they 1,090 kgs? 50 kgs could have a sizeable impact on the dynamics?

Your cup will deffo be a lot looser than the test car id have thought.

The 182 i had a drive of when looking about had over 3000 miles on it (still not ideal) and it was great - when i took delivery of my own 182 with 200 miles on the clock it felt like a totally different car; it was slow to pick up and wasnt that keen to be pushed. Its got over 2000 miles on it now and its only just beginning to be the car i remember at the test drive

^^same here. I never test drove a 172 but my VTR feel alot slower than the car i drove on the test drive.

Cars do get alot better with miles....has to be said.

My Cup has only done 3500 and still feels very tight compared to my cousins 20k example.

Since fitting the ITG filter the car seems to get to the paperband alot quicker than with the paper filter. Maybe your car is the same?

Also the car seems to pull alot harder once into the powerband since replacing the filter. Due to this different nature now I really feel my car is a long way from being run in. Its more noticable now for some reason.

At 9.5k though, the car should be fairly well run in, albeit not fully run in. Mind you we all know how demos get run in...

It was a one owner (for sale) car and not a demo... so should be reasonably run in.. at not far off 10k, but cars do loosen up the harder theyre driven..
