Drying the car!

  PH1 iceburg
So, what does everyone use to dry the car off once washed.

I have always used the good old chamois leather (autoglym) but i have

read a lot lately about drying towels.

Whats best, pros and cons?

Dan

nothing like a leather touches my paint anymore, ocd ftl :(

plush towels + spritz of some sort of QD, currently on Megs No16 last touch.

four towels, one for wheels, one for door shuts etc, two for outer body work.

I use two towels, both HUGE things from a cheapy shop, 2 for £1.50, very good and a frikin bargain tbh

One to get majority of water off, the other to get the remainder

Ive got a couple of the Sonus drying towels. Very absorbent, and does the job very well :)
Not too expensive either, as they come in a twin pack iirc

lol at leaf blower, did you not read my "tiny scratches and chips from arrogant gardeners" thread :rasp:

From expireance Id say

Waffle Weave towels.

Better for pat drying where you place the towel on a surface and pat the towel as you would a paper towel. The waffle weave works like a suction cups sucking up the water into the towel. probs the safest way to dry the car with a towel as there is no movement.

Deep Pile Towels

I like these towels best for a good qquick dry. Method would be used is much like drying your self, wiping over the body with little force to soak up the water, Id reccomend using a QD such as Last touch to prevent things such as marring. its critical pile is as deep as possible. By using a QD your towell will work very well leaving a nice shiney surface but a silicone base QD will shorten the life span of your towell.

Leaf Blower

By far the safest way to dry your car as you dont even touch the car with anything, simply blowing away the water from the surface. It is also good for blowing water from crevices where water ususally drips from at a later time fudging up a polish or wax:(
Chemical guys sell a smaller leaf blower device that makes you looks like less of a goon drying your car with a huge leaf blower.

I have quite an embarrassingly large colection of towels/microfibres. OCD FTW.

Der Wunder & Water Magnets are my favourite!

lol, tried 1:4, sucked, 1:3, sucked, 1:1 (as was getting frustrated), now i just pour the contents into my spray :(

to make this work propely, ie with no water spots, you need to use RO water which is £££ and too much for everyday cars. classics etc is fine.

just use an autoglym synthetic chamois works well tbh, much better than a traditional leather chamois which just move the water around.

Think this is the best you can get imo, had mine 6 months and still very very plush.

Don't even need to ring out once dryed. And can literally dry your car in minutes. Even on black cars, you can do it perfect with no marks.

Good shout.

I pat dry the roof and bonnet (where water will sit) with the der wunders first to get rid of most of the water and then use the above to pat dry the rest

poorboys waffleweave ftw. Make sure you use the soaker setting on the hose to make as much water run off as possible. 2 WW towels will give better results. Looks sweeeeeet.

Ive got the Poorboys Waffleweave aswell.

That Chem Guys blower looks alright, has anyone used one? Might venture on to DW to get more details if poss (hate going on there, end up spending £££s on new stuff).

I use one large microfiber to get the main water off, Then a second softer microfibre to dry it to some extent, Then a buffing cloth with Chemical Guys Speed wipe (or whatever its called) to finish off. Leave a lovely shine and only need to wax every month or so.

I have the tropi care one but i need another one. I have to use the leaf blower aswell otherwise it gets soaked before finishing the car.

I used the water blade thing on my old clio before the towel but you could see the marks it left under certain lights. Would be pissed off if i spent hours polishign it then to use one of those to dry the car the next time and see the marks.
