Drying towels

What are the benefits from using a drying towel to using a normal chamois? I know they are meant to soak up more water but is this the only real advantage? thinking of getting one for future cleans...

Main thing I noticed is just the size of them. If you dry the car straight after washing then you need a big towel!

yes and less chance of scratching paintwork, when you use one they are soo easy!!

Meant normal chamois arent very big.

Pretty big, and there's two as well. So you can do once with one, and finish up with the second

oh sweet! How long do these last then, normally a chamois will last me about 10 or so washes. And, can they be put in the washing machine?

I've got one of the Meguirs Water Magnets but never been overly impressed by it plus the Uber Drying Towel is cheaper and works better IMO

I bought the tropi-care one from i4detailing last year around september time and it was very good to start off with and i could go round the car without having to wring it out.

Now though it has definately lost its "plushness" and will not quite do the whole car in one go. Going to try a different make when i next order a batch of cleaning gear from the internet. Then i can use the tropi-care one for the wheels.

I've got one of these. Very happy with it, miles better than the chamois I was using before. Normally pretty good for doing the whole car apart from the roof. Normally, squeeze dry and then the roof.

I never have, no idea if you're suppose to though. Should say if to on the package.

costco is where its at - 36 microfibre cloths for 8 quid. they do an excellent job, although arent as big as ones above.

Do the windows first with dry towel to get it damp then do bodywork with or without a bit of qd sprayed on panels, should give a nice finish.

I lay mine on the bonnet and give it a couple of squirts of last touch on each side. Fold it in half then half then half again so its a managable size then start drying off the car, using a spay or two on each panel to make the towel glide nicely. When it stops absorbing water turn it over or fold it again to reveal a dry section of the towel.

Use it Dry, the Megs water magnet is ok but after a few months mine went really hard

I just leave mine to dry. If its really dirty then I guess you should wash it. But if its dirty then you aint washing your car properly

yeh its fairly dirty - been used twice now. just dont want to have grit in it then i go and use it next time.

Do you mean "if its NOT dirty then your not washing it properly"

If the drying towel is dirty then the car isn't clean so why are you drying it off, clean better!

I'll be test driving some snow foam and the Sonus Der Wonder drying towels over the weekend.

I meant if your drying towel is getting dirty, then you havent cleaned the car enough/properly as there's still dirt on the car.

But as you said, if it is dirty, then wash it, as you dont want to be drying a car with a towel with crap all over it

Depends how often I wash the car. Usually, wash it after 3 or 4 'drying runs' of the car. But if its gets dirtier, then I wash it anyway.

Why? Thought they were the equivalent of a chamois. When using a chamois obviously you have to keep wringing it out, thought this was the same. But obviously not.

Disclaimer **skim read thread**

When a drying towel has dried out it will repel water more than soak it, especially when there is very little water on your car.

When I come to drying the car, I put my three/four towels in a bucket of warm water. This soaks the towels. I then ring them out and they will then soak up as they should. If you use a completely dry towel it will not work as well as a towel that is a tiny bit moist.

i find that rinsing the car with an open ended hose helps to get most of the water off before you even start drying it.
