Dull and Slow VAG Content

  SEAT Ibiza SC FR
So, I finally got rid of my 172 - I had it for 3 years and basically it'd gotten the point where I got fed up of fixing it every two minutes. Decided to get something on PCP this time as there were some good deals around, I'm also in the process of moving into the city centre of Nottingham so I wanted something that'll be good in traffic (light on fuel, easy to park) we're also going down to one car so my other half will also be driving it.

In the end we opted for... an Ibiza (yeah, I know) not even a Cupra.

1.2 TSi FR Coupe. Looks nice though in red with the Titanium pack - it's a bit 'all show and no go' but it'll do for now. It doesn't feel slow around town, the turbo is small and pulls nicely, helps that it has the electronic diff thing off of the Golf GTI too. If I get bored I'll give it to the other half and I'll buy something daft.

EDIT: I'd like to add it costs me around £200 a year to insure this thing with £250 excess. ;)

On the day of picking it up:

At the end of the day do I wish I'd bought something faster? Absolutely! Do I regret that? Nope - not yet. Although I've found the TMC make tuning box to take it to 130BHP and 218NM (over the current 105BHP and 175NM). Got 60MPG the other night driving it from Nottingham to Lincoln and it'll return 45MPG sat in terrible traffic.

I really like these. Good, sensible purchase mate.

Thanks mate - I reckon it's better looking than the non-ST Fiestas. And at the end of the day it's all about the deal, we got nearly £3.5k off the list price so can't argue with that.

Exactly - with your criteria you've got it spot on. Although maybe your criteria is retrospective to suit the car you've bought... its a man thing.

I agree re fiesta. Only car in that category I think is more attractive is the Polo (biased as I owned one) but they really arent worth the premium. Especially on PCP.

My advice - get the missus driving it as much as possible so when the time comes you can get something looney!

Rather nice little car. Well put together i'll give them that! Should have found a DSG of some kind for traffic driving.

I nearly did, but to get the deal I had to get one that was already on order and they didn't have any. It's not the end of the world since the clutch and gear change are both so light and you can move it around easily on the clutch alone. Part of me wishes I'd gone for the 1.4 TSI ACT though.

Really nice cars, considered an 1.6 FR TDi before I got my Fiesta, but the payments were cheaper on the Fiesta.

My mrs has a DSG 1.2 tsi SE. The DSG box is lovely!

The power is great in these, for a such a small engined car. The MPG isn't all that great though, she's averaging about 40mpg but that's mainly due to the town driving she does.

Really? I'm getting WAY better than that and I've only done 350 miles in it so far - could it be down to the 17 inch wheels this one is on?

This has only done 8k in 2 years. She drives 3 miles to work and back, no more. If we take it on a long run it'll hit 50+

Useful transport, and with a warranty at least you dont need to panic about big diesel repair bills (pump/injectors etc)

That was the main reason - loads of things started to go wrong on the 172 and it was due a big repair bill soon. I won't be keeping this past 3 years.

Petrol isn't it?

Life's too short for enthusiasts to own cars like this, IMO. Looks nice though I guess, and it's new so some people will be impressed.

Edit, having re read the OP it makes more sense as a city car.

oops, shows how little attention I was paying, lol.
Assumed diesel when I saw 60mpg when scan reading.

Its fine having a sensible daily, so long as you dont end up without a toy too.

I hate driving anything day to day that wastes loads of fuel I could be enjoying round a track at the weekend instead, I think unless you are rich it makes sense as an enthusiast NOT to spend fortunes on mundane commuter driving etc.

This. I've got a buy a house in the next 3-5 years, if I don't I'll be over 30 and that's a bit late. Then I can have a weekend toy - I've got it (mostly) planned out.

...but could you spend 90 minutes a day in a car that you hated?

I think I've got it perfect with the E36, but that's another discussion for another thread lol.

Do you think you'd ever buy a car you hated? So what if it's going to set your hair on fire, doesn't mean it's got to be something you hate. Also surely a true car enthusiast (I hate that term - I just see some chav in my mind) can appreciate cars for what they are? Also they will like pretty much any car, which is where I am - I pretty much love everything with wheels and an engine.

I cant think why I would hate a runabout that goes exactly as fast in heavy traffic as a Ferrari 458 or a GTR or a Lambo but is easy to park and is cheap to run?

Its a tool, its useful, its not interesting or exciting, but it works and works well im sure, and things that work well are hard to hate!

I got one of these for the wife.. Just the same but ours is grey and the 1.6tdi.

I really like like it, really light steering and great on fuel.

Mrs has a black one, it's decent on fuel as long as you don't go too fast, seems happiest around 65-70mph. I'm trying to talk her into a tuning box but it's nippier than you'd think as standard though. I also want to get the stupid "fog light on when turning" thing coded out as well, makes you look like an idiot, can't wait to get pulled over and having to explain it.

This happens on 100's of cars from the last 5 years or so. I'd have thought plod knew about it to be honest! It's very common!

Really don't understand that 'feature'. Half the time you just look like a fog light w**ker with a blown bulb
