DV or BOV?

  2008 Clio 1.2 TCE
what is the difference between a dump valve and a blow off valve?

does a blow off valve still give u the noise of a dump valve?

If you fit a single piston dump valve to a car with an air flow meter it will just stall on idle. It doesn't make it any louder, just keeps the valve closed at idle.

Collins will sound louder than the forge on the 1.2TCE if that's what you want. Tried and tested on a Twingo GT.

There aint much point in a dump valve in my opinion, just drops performance, and makes a stupid annoying sound every gear change, when it makes the PPPPTTTTSSSHH of dumping the air and you select another gear and floor it, all the presure you have just thrown out of the pipes the turbo has to make that presure again before it starts to make more boost, dont fit one and you have constant presure and will pull instantly after a gear change (providing its in the right rev range:))

Agree on the chav noise, I wouldn't have one.

LOL @ the losing power though. Makes f**k all difference. Had this discussion on puntosports many years ago. At least if your getting rid of all that hot air and not recirculating it, you'll have to suck in some nice cool air to replace it. Instant 5bhp right there!! ;)

yeah after the turbo has spooled back up;)

i'd go with a diverter valve rather than a blow off valve tbh

I much prefur the sound of the compressor wheel chopping through the air instead of dumping all of it. This is a renault 5 gt turbo doing it, same engine as im putting in my clio. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GterYmWKH_4

And as you can clearly see, theres no lag after a gear change waiting for the turbo to spool again, its just off into the next cog, and the one after, and the one after that :p

Pretty much. Dual piston dv's are for cars with air flow meters (like yours).
The 1.2 TCE engine uses MAP not MAF so theres no air flow meter, hence why you can use a DTA dump valve in the first place without confusing the engine management ala VAG stuff.

Yeah. The different one is a flutter valve which is a recirculating valve.
the recirculating DVs still make a 'woosh' sound but aren't as loud as dump valves. The loud 'flutter' sound is normally and external wastegate, the quiet flutter is the internal wastegate built onto the actuator IIRC.

The 'lag' will happen off boost (ie below 2.5k) with or without a BOV, a BOV should make any difference when your moving along at the right revs the turbo wont have to spool up again if you have a BOV, it'll just get back on it again.

I love my chav valve tunnels and enclosed streets are a speciality tbh , yeh that one would be fine. I like forge stuff its pretty damn good quality stuff, got a forge blanking plate/dump valve kit and intercooler on the meggy and its all been brilliant.

might stand to be corrected on that actually
