DVD Player Wont Play DVD's?

only just noticed but the gf's laptop wont play DVD's, just comes up please insert DVD and pops back open again.

it plays cds fine but wont recognise DVD's.

ive just installed the latest directX but still the same.

ideas?

Are you sure it reads DVD's and its not just a cd drive ?

How many Doovdé's you tried in it?

Have you tried real movie DVDs (if you have any you pikey) and also writeable ones?

Is it new, or have you had it a while? Reason i ask is because i bought a new laptop and it wouldnt recognise any software discs but would play cd's. Drive was faulty. So it could be your disc drive up the spout.

brand new laptop, couple weeks old, ive tried a film dvd, a copied film dvd and a dvd with some software burnt onto it, none work, only audio cd's

Have you tried removing it in device manager and re-installing?

Make sure you have the drivers on a USB key or something first tho!

ill try it tomorrow, dunno where the drivers am gonna be as i didnt install any when it came, it was just switch it on and it ran vista for first time, wasnt no disc with it either so i assume it dont need drivers or they was already on?

Vista should pick them straight back up when you restart after removing them, give it a quick go mate, will only take 2 mins!

Worst that can happen is you need to download them again
