it got blown out of proportion if you ask me, most were sorted under warranty but obv. still something to look out for

VANOS as said above it the variable valve timing, was replaced recently - i believe the gearing in it broke

Aye, very similar to the nikasil problem on the 328's, or buying a clio without cup packs and the cambelt done at 30k miles, not as bad as people made out.
