Earliest model 172 MK2 (2001) question

My friend is going to buy a second hand Clio 172 MK2. The most strange thing for me is that it doesnt has the headlight washer jets. Plus it has gear changing light too!!! Can anyone advice???

This car had done 25xxxkm, 2001 MK2 and ask for 4,390.00ukp. It is from my friends friend. I think the price is OK right?

it should have the gear shift light, and should have washer jets, if it hasnt it would suggest it doesnt have xenon lights, which it should have!?

Hold on!!! I am sorry to ask, I read the old UK version Clio 172 catalogue and I found that there is gear shift light, but where is it??? Mine do not have! Or it is just not on???

Also the one that is for sell do have Xexon light.

Or is that possible if the bumper got re-painted???

the gear shift light on the mk2 is in the right hand corner of the dial set, it is green and displays GAZ/GAS (or something?) when in use or when ignition lights are powered up.

all std 172s (not cups) should have Xenon lights, if the washer jets have been removed at any point the car WILL NOT be road legal, as they are a legal requirement for Xenon lights.

No one will care about the headlight washer as I am from Hong Kong. But thanks that I really dont know that is a legal requirement for Xenon headlight.

After some search of shift light, I think the light will on when rev hit around 6,500rpm. I rarely get up to that rpm since i bought my car. Will try later today.

Not quite true.

Only vehicles fitted with Xenon headlights from new registration require washer jets acording to the law.

does it have the caps fitted that the cup has? i could be wrong but from memory these dont come with the bumpers when you buy them and they cost quite a bit-more then the jets so that sort of rules out it being replacement bumper as they would have opted for the jets

No, we dont have the cup version in Hong Kong.
Plus there are no caps on too.

Bit confused - I have an early (Sept 2001) Mk2 172 and there is no shift light. Didnt think there was one on the Mk2?

mine is a june/july 2001 mk2 and HAS the shift light. Y reg

My 2003 53 172 has the shift light. I didnt think Mk1 172s had xenons, only double optic headlights?

I think mine does not come with the shift light. From my owners manual, the GAZ/GAS means "Not Used". Damn!

Therefore, I think early MK2 doesnt comes with the shift light.

Clio is cheap in Hong Kong because Renault is not popular at all.

Sorry, me again. After a little research, I found that the shift light should be the one in green with a gear stick symbol. I do have it!!! But it had never mentioned at my owners manual. Will do a test tomorrow cos I havent drive my car today.

Howd you get a Mk2 in june/july 2001?? Maybe Ive got the model designations wrong then - we ordered a 172 just when they stopped production of the Mk1, and had to wait till September for delivery. Ours was one of the first Mk2s on the road, besides press cars. Cant remember any as early as June/July though...

Okay - Mark 2 Phase II, according to the "history" page. Do all the shift light comments apply to Mark 2 Phase I, i.e. 2000-2001 172/172 Exclusive?

172 Mk1 up to early 2001 had shift light. After that, along with revision to exhaust system (extra emission sensor) the shift light dissapeared.
