Looking at getting a fresh set of pads for my next trackday to go with my Brembo HC discs. General thoughts and best place to get them from please...
 
I've never been a fan of EBC, if it’s for the track then go for a set of Carbone Loraine RC6's they're fantastic.
 
Steer clear of EBC they have a tendancy to break up and the friction material falls out with the backing plate!!
 
See ive been told they are pretty good, although they do get alot of mixed reports. Will only be doing three or four trackdays a year, and to and from work etc.
 
I've spoke to a few clio drivers at trackdays who are running them and swear by them. Although I can't comment on pads coming away from backing. Mine need replacing soon and I intend to try the Yellowstuff. My mate runs them on his Corsa VXR and swears by them.
 
Pretty Sure burpspeed use the or have used them in their race car and some police forces have them fitted to their cars so cant be all that bad! I think its just the crappy green stuff etc that are shite!
 
I've always run them whenever I have replaced pads. Never let me down and never ruined my discs.

You will always hear bad things about every different product though so it never really helps reading reviews.
 
I think there are some horror stories from years ago that get repeated, Ive personally always found EBC pads to actually be quite good despite what some people would say about them and I have aggressively worn them down to nothing without them ever falling apart.

In fact Ive just put some yellowstuff in the 6 pots Im fitting onto my nova, as an alternative to the massively over priced genuine tarox ones.

Can't comment on yellowstuff, never used them. What I will say is that I have always used redstuff pads front and rear in my 172, and have nothing but praise for them. They have coped with 160 mile road rallies in the SW, where you are constantly on the brakes for six hours non-stop, and I have always been the last of the late brakers at hillclimbs, sprints, and track days. Taken all the abuse I can give them with ease.

My 3 trophys from racing on Yellowstuff last year, so yea total shite. Lol

We ran the same set of discs all year, went through 2 sets of pads. That was around 12 hours of track time. the discs would of taken another set of pads before they got to the wear marker. So in our experiance they dont eat discs (so what if they do when Brembo HC's are £35)

They do have limitations. we started to get pad fade late on in the races, 25-30mins in, due to the heat build up, they then needed to be de-glazed before the next meeting. Thats why we are trying Bluestuff this season. For shorter stints yellow would be fine in our opinion.

I've always recommended these after using them in past cars (scooby and 306 GTi-6). They're not trying to compete with the ultimate track pads but in their price range they are more fade resistant than mintex 1144 (which is what I've compared them with)

However, I'm actually more drawn to the bluestuff now and is probably what the clio will get at next disc/pad swap. Is there is a better road/track pad for under £100?
 
i had the greenstuff pads which lasted for about 15k miles so not to bad. however they lost there super sharpness within the first 1k miles :s
 
mid cycle redstuff pad exploded in my megs calliper under medium/hard braking sending me into oncoming traffic at 100+.

go figure.
 
I've had them fall apart and throw the backing plate out while I was driving. Twice. I refuse to fit them for anyone
 
I love how brakepads generate such a varied set of opinions.

I've run yellowstuffs for years and have nothing but praise for them. Great value and a great track pad. I've been using Bluestuffs recently and they seem to also last well. Less feel than the yellow's though, but they do last a bit longer. They've not exactly been kind to my wheels though, but thats my fault for never washing them!
 
Pads are such a personal thing in my experience...

Personally I love the CL range, offers fantastic stopping power for a reasonable price and never had the pad fall to pieces like the old stories go. Unbelievable from cold also which was a great plus point! The only downside which didn't really bother me was dust that's hard to remove from the wheels and the squealing when your not hammering the brakes.

I also like the EBC Bluestuffs, give good stopping power again for the price and never seemed to fall away after log periods just the same as the CL's. Downside to these was they seemed to need a little warmth before they 'woke' up.

I'd like to try the PF pads one time to see if they're worth the extra money over the CL's, also try some Ferrodo DS2500 to see what the fuss is all about as everyone goes mad for them. My guesses is that their like the turini/2118 must have parts for a clio, even if they're average...

Awful in what way?

Our 172 is epic on them, they have completely transformed the car, no matter how brave I think I am being on the brakes they just have no trouble since fitting the DS2500 and HC disks.

Havent ever had any fade, the feel is great, they stop really well, I just cant see what more you could ever expect from just a pad change?

they work, but they feel crap to use and inspire no confidence IMO. I know lots of people with the same opinion

Nick is spot on, they're just "the in thing" that everyone uses. Mintex 1155 piss on them, and Brembo sports are designed to be better and still legal for road use
