ECU Cover...

  LY V6 with Recaros
In continuation form this thread about people ecu brackets snapping.

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=185299

My local dealers was refusing to fix this under warranty, so I have got on to Renault Uk, and this is the response they give me:

'Thank you very much for your recent e-mail regarding your Renault Clio. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with your vehicle. I can certainly appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

Your warranty is there to cover the cost of repairs or replacement of parts that are diagnosed by the Renault dealership to be a manufacturing defect. We also concur with the Renault dealership's diagnosis.

After speaking to the service department at Renault Romford, they have advised that the battery cover bracket had broken, this is not seen to be a manufacturing defect. While we will consider requests for financial support in certain cases, we are unable to contribute towards the repair costs as the fault is not a manufacturing defect.

I realise that this may not be the answer you wished for but I hope that I have explained the reasons behind our decision.

If you would like any assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us at Renault Customer Services via telephone or email us on
customer.services@renault.co.uk

Thank you once again for getting in touch'

So basically they don't give a s**t either, but people on here have said that they have had theirs fixed under warranty! What can I do, that has really pissed me off, I don't see the problem, what exactly is the warranty for then??

What can I reply back, as I'm not going to give up yet!!

Deb,
In the original post, there is a list of members who have had the same problem so its hardly an unheard of fault.
As a suggestion, why don’t you ask them all to PM their names and registration numbers, then forward them to the "Don’t give s--- about customers dept" at Renault and mark the letter cc BBC Watchdog.

Tell them to 'OFF'.
My garage never, repeat never argues, just fixes my car.
Never had problems, i know of one guy on his 'fifth' exhaust!!!!!!!

Renault cars may not be the best, but the warranty is about as good as it gets;)

I could try another dealers and see what they say, but that would mean wasting a days holiday at work to get it there, whereas I could pop it in to my local one on the way to work! God they've really wound me up! I will try some of your suggestion though.

How else would it break!? Apart from when you reached under there with a hammer the other day?? Exactly.... I don't think so Renault :nono:

That is a damn good idea, always threaten them with further action, you will soon see that they will fix it under warranty

Not a manufacturing defect? Perhaps not. If it was manufacured as per spec then it's not a manufacturing defect.

A design defect? f**k Yes.

Idiots. Mine's still broken. Although my dealer agreed to replace it no problem, they seem to have a problem acually ordeing the part. I've given up now. I'll only snap again on the way home so what's the point? As I said in another thread a few days ago - the last 182 to roll off the line had the same flaws as the first. Renault don't seem to 'do' improvements over the years. They are also experts at denying any knowledge of KNOWN flaws. I work in the car industry and I KNOW the engineers are well aware of every single fault in their vehicles.

Well, I have just emailed them a complaint letter, I mentioned that if necessary I can get names and registrations of other cars that have been repaired under warranty for the same problem, and that I will take it to watchdog if they don't sort it out basically!!

  LY V6 with Recaros
Well I followed the advise, and this is the reply they sent me  They haven't even acknowledged how they can justify other dealers fixing it under warrantly. What a bunch of usless unhelpful t***s! I'm soo angry!!

'Dear Miss Cripps

Thank you for your response.

I am sorry that you were unhappy with our previous response. As previously advised, the manufacturer's warranty is there to provide for instances whereby a part has failed, due to a manufacturing defect. In this instance, the clip has broken, and as advised by our dealer, this was not a defect.

I understand you feel this is a design issue, however, we would not look to contribute to a repair, which has not manifested due to a manufacturing defect. I have passed your comments onto the design team for their information. I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us with your comments. It is your feedback that is vital in helping us to monitor and improve the products and service we provide.

I realise that this may not be the answer you wished for but I hope that I have explained the reasons behind our decision.

If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at Renault Customer Services on our free phone number 0800 072 3372.'

I will do, it's just getting the time, I can't really do it in work, anyone know what time they will be open to? I'm getting really pissed off with them now, I feel like I'm just going round in circles, it hardly even looks like they've read my email!

Ive been there and done that about my 1.2 16v wiring loom.

Its a stated problem and defect that Renault recognise.

They basicly gave me the same crap about how its not a defect etc.....
Gave up in the end as they tried to fob me off so many times.

Renault = pointless bits of ****

They did however give me a £500 voucher off a new Renault !!! t***s

It's soo damn annoying, I am getting to the stage where I feel like giving up with them as they're being so f**king usless, but the rattle it makes is getting really bloody annoying!!

Not just a pretty face ..... How much does the part in question cost?

I'd go to the Citizens advice bureau and myabe go to solicitors, most offer a free half hour consultation and see what they think.

Personally I can't believe they aren't fixing it!

  LY V6 with Recaros
I don't know how much the part costs tbh, it's probably not that much, it's just the principle of it. The car is a year old, still under warranty, and I know that it's been repaired for others, so I don't see why I should have to pay out!

Nige, I don't know, will that seem a bit far, it is only a battery cover, it's not like it's anything major, I'm just soo pissed off with how unhelpful Renault are being! Also, if they do ever decide to fix it, I think I'd be a bit worried about leaving my car with them now, I dread to think how my car will be treated by them!!

As above... if the part in question isnt really that expensive then i wouldnt bother taking it any further no matter how peed off you are at the monkeys!! I'd just buy the part and fit it myself!

  VW ....
^thats the thing though ... why should you have to ?? :S ... thats what warranties are for .

It's clearly not a key structural part so for this to snap in a life of 1 year of the car clearly shows it as a manufacturing fault IMO .

  LY V6 with Recaros
I know, I'm just so wound up by them now that I don't wanna give up just yet, I will call them first! I'm sure it wont get me anywhere, but at least it might make me feel better telling them what I think!!

They made me pay £2 for a light sensor thing that had snapped on my car lol I didn't even waste my breath arguing with them as they are always right ... fantastic customer service huh

  LY V6 with Recaros
Does anyone know how much the part is? I'm sure if it's that cheap I can just pay for it and fit it myself if all else fails.

I know where your coming from mate but at the end of the day theyre just a waste of space and i wouldnt give them the benefit of the doubt imo!!! Ive recently changed from a renault and although people may not think its an upgrade in car, i certainly think it is where customer service is involved!!

Did you pay that £2 on your credit card maz??

Kiza

Just thought paying by card would of took the piss abit or dont they accept cash??

I will do, I'm going to try some other dealers at lunchtime and see if they are any more helpful than Romford.

  LY V6 with Recaros
It looks like I'm going to have to. Their crappy unhelpful emails just made me angry, but if it's cheap I will just pay. I'll still try a few other dealers first though.

  clio 182 black /gold
I had mine done under warrenty and im sure they said it was about £40ish to buy, then i said no it is under warrenty. OMG i can,t belive there not fixing it. Have you tried any other dealers?

  LY V6 with Recaros
£40! :eek:I know it's not silly amounts of money, but it's more than I thought, andI don't really have any money to spare right now! It's alot considering everyone else has had it done for free! I'm going to try some other dealers soon, only trouble with that is, I'd have to waste a days holiday at work to get it to any other dealers, as there aren't any that are that close to me.

  LY V6 with Recaros
Well I spoke to another dealers, they said they need to have a look at it first but they might be able to do it. Only trouble is it's not near enough for me to just pop down and have a look, and then take it back another time to be fixed. Might have to wait a while until I get some time off work.
