ECU Remap

  Black Gold with cup packs
How does an insurance company tell if you have had your ECU remapped if your car has been involved in an accident. And say you didn't disclouse this feature?

I could just say It was like it when I bought it and I had no knowledge of the remap though. Couldn't I?

I seem to remember a post many moons ago by a member who worked for an insurance company. Apparently, one of the first things their claims assessors do is to check the ECU for the number of re-flashes, especially on a car such as a 172/182. They then cross reference this with the data held on file with dealers/manufacturer et voila, they can then tell if the car has an un-disclosed remap.

They dop on any cars which remaps are common 172/182 with any mods or any modified car ie exhaust they'd check quite likly with big claims.

They checked mine I recon when I claimed and my car was stock. (was a Turbo diesel though so easy big gains tunning)

My thoughts on declaring mods' are that not only are you fully covered and are removing a reason for them not to pay out but most decent companies will also replace the mod in the event of a claim rather than just use a standard part.

Insurance investigators can plug there own PC's in and check the ECU codes they don't need the Clip.

Most places won't replace modified with modified parts they just return to standard.
