I've not posted much on here recently but I bought a MK1 MX5 on Friday so thought I would start a thread. I got a company car about a year a go and decided I wanted something that I could insure cheaply on a classic policy and keep in the garage for occasional use. I decided on an MX5 and have viewed 5 or 6 in the last 12 months, all of which were rotten or had been repaired to a poor standard.
Then I spotted this on Gumtree, a 1996 1.6 UK car with only 45k from new. It's got plenty of history and every MOT certificate from when it started having them in 1999. It's been kept in a garage from new and only ever used in the summer months, the owner had been using it less and less so decided to sell. It's covered 11k in the last 9 years. Unlike many it has not suffered from rust.
It does need a bit of work, the cambelt is overdue, rear widow is cloudy in places, it wants standard wheels and there are around 10 small dents that need pulling out. But overall I am very pleased with it, everything still feels tight, you cannot believe it is 20 years old.
Stopped for a quick pint on the way home.
First job was to remove the seats as the interior needed a good clean.
Better.
Seats and mats back in.
I am going to clean the engine bay at some point this month but it's not looking bad for a 20 year old car.
As is the boot.
Some how this label has survived from 1996.
Took the mud guards off whilst I cleaned the inside of the arches.
Cleaned up alright but they have marked the paint.
The drain holes don't seem to be blocked.
This wing is the worst panel but I'm hoping a decent dent man will pull these out. The paint isn't marked, the white line must be a reflection.
The rear window needs sorting out but the roof is the original and is in very good condition.
Gave it a quick clean.
Tucked up.
I'm hoping for £4/500 I can have this how I want it.
