Edited photo help iPhone 4S

So I edited a photo thinking it'd be sweet as the original would save somewhere or at least I'd have a copy anyway but it's not saved in either and I now just have an edited version.

Is there anyway to get the original back, any software or maybe when I plug my phone into my laptop it might pull it back?

My 4S does the same so I edit it then save it back to the camera roll from my photostream.

Things like cropping, you just click "edit" again and the original is there, you can just "de-crop" it.
