Eibach sportlines and 2118 combo

  MKV GTI
Hi,

I have been contemplating buying white 2118's for my rb as i think the contrast between the colours will be .

The only problem being i have heard that they only come in 15' and am slightly worried that they may look lost in the arches so to rectify was thinking about purchasing some eibach sport/pro springs to lower the ride height a little and stiffen things up a bit.

or maybe i would be better off with coilovers although i will only buy the best which means 1k+ so would prefer to stick with the springs as will not be going on track, just wondering if any members can post some pics up of the eibach springs and the 2118 to see if it will look right lol

thanks!!!

if that! its not a lot. not good enough for what you wanting to do. would just look too high!

Wel looks like I mite have to stop cutting corners and get myself some variant 1 kw coilies with a drop of around ohh say 60mm that's my diposable income gone for the next few months Lol ah wel will be worth it in the end so I keep tellin myself anyways!;)

Btw would kw coilovers be to harsh for day to day driving as I do say 12-15k a year???

  MKV GTI
Just out of interest wat has that Clio been dropped by Clio luke? that's the look I would like to achieve low enough but not impractical as I like my splitter lol

  Ph1
Apex give a 40 mm drop. From my experience their fine when matched with decent shocks

Eibach for a quality ride not lowering.

Coilovers, go for a good make if your tracking it. For road use or only lowering total over kill so a cheap set should do you.

Have a search, theres a set of coilovers which are only a couple of hundred which get a good write up

its on apex springs.
apex say 40mm drop. but when i had a set it was more like 50mm. they look great but they are quite a firm/crashy ride.

Tbh I really wouldn't want to compromise my cars ride quality for the sake of lowering it just to make it look good, hence why I would much rather go all or nothing with the suspension setup it may be overkill as u say intact I know it is but I just can't bring myself to buyin poor(er) quality products for my car lol

yeah, i was not happy with the quality of apex and i am now on sportlines with no complaints.
coilovers are also going to feel quite harsh compared to the standard setup. sportlines and 16" wheels is about spot on imo.

  MKV GTI
I think thats the sensible thing to do tbh, il just get a set of 16' and sportlines as id rather avoid harsh coilovers for daily driving im not intending to turn my car into a track weapon lol so spose thats the best bet!

looks like il be following the CS sheep and buy some antra or white turinis ;)

  MKV GTI
strange i wonder why they are 15'' only lol

They look awesome on that RB much prefer to the turinis, i see what every one saying now about the need for coilovers with these wheels wouldnt look right any other way noticed theres a group buy for the 2118s on here too

  172 cup
close up of front (bearing in mind cup is higher)

Also now running different shocks and ast solid top mounts which has dropped it a bit

Just go for the apex springs then if your budgets holding you back..

Exactly what ive done until i free up some cash to buy some decent coilies! il be on my freshly powder coated OZ F1s next week on Apex myself!

Yea think the 182 cup is 3-4mm lower may be wrong tho?

Still looks awsesome just love the wheels soooo much lol

So is that still on standard height springs how much lower than std would u thing it is with ast top mounts and diff shocks??

that is due to the springs . . . once you change them for sportlines no diff on 182

172 cup is higher as they are lighter then others, even when running the same springs. I.e sportlines, that pic is off mine on sportlines

Ast's have dropped it about another 5mm ish

  MKV GTI
ahh i see should get similar results if were to do the same then?

are the top mounts worth buying i mean do they sharpen up the suspension setup enough to warrant £150 also is ther much of a difference between teh std springs and the sportlines?

sorry for all the questions just want to get clued up before spending the best part of 1k to find my car looks like its rolling on milk bottle caps on stilts flol!

  172 cup
Yer, will be almost the same height.

Sportlines are really comfy ride, but also give a better feel and flatter cornering. Would recommend them to anyone

Ast's are again a big improvement, but it really depends what you want from the car. Basicly I'd say if your not going to use you car a bit on the track dont do it. Every little bump in the road becomes harsher (thats why I wouldnt advise them for day to day) On the plus side, great feel, the slight camber they give improves cornering at speed massively. There an expensive piece of metal, dont just do it for the extra little drop.

I might jus give the top mounts a miss for now can always buy them at a later date I think I may be atleast a little bit different and give it a shot not the end of the world if it doesn't look right will always find a buyer for the 2118s (hopefully) thanks for all the advice and pics best get them before the 2118 gets labeled a sheep mod I feel I may be too late tho lol

Just need to get the ball rolling now ;)

i guess 2118's are not avaliable in 16" because 16" is not a size commonly used by track/rally cars etc. 15" or 17" usually.
sheep turinis are good...
but these are better (imo) and a fair bit lighter too...
16" ultraleggeras on sportlines ;)
