Electrical fault, car trying to start itself?

Hi guys I have a electrical fault with my ph1 172, car wouldn't start totally dead so put a new battery on, still wouldn't start but would bump off, checked the relays and swapped them about and checked all fuses and they are ok. Put a new starter on and now I've gone to connect the power and every time I do the car try's to start on its own with no key in the ignition?

I'm i right in thinking the starter the starter loom is shorting itself?

What else could it be? Any help is much appreciated.

Reconditioned starter?

I've seen it where the post for the exciter is too long and it hits the main feed terminal when it's bolted on.

New from euro car parts matey,
Will pull it back off tomorrow and check it against the original
