Engine blown!!!

  Clio 182
Hi guys.

ok so me and a few friends chipped in and bought a Clio to use on the track it's a 182 55 plate. We used t yesterday and brands for our 2nd trackday.
Last run of the day the engine went bang on us down the straight. We checked the oil levels the day before and it was all fine, there was no oil spread about the track or anything but the dip stick seems very dry. We also found a few bits of metal on the track which looks exactly like a bit of piston as we can still see some of the ring around the piston.
We are new to the Renault thing so we could do with some help on who to repair it and where to get a engine.. We are based in the essex area please can some 1 help

Best bet if there is a few of you is just buy an engine off here and fit it yourself IMHO.

Unusual for one to fail like that though, they normally just die slowly, did someone miss a gear?

Danny @ 519 automotive. Look at the traders section he is only located in Bedford. He is a good guy that knows what he is doing.

^its actally pretty common, spin a big end/rod bolts let go, piston smashes into head and bits fly ot the exhaust!

Even on a spun big end it normally knocks for a while first.

Agreed on the bolts letting go though, set of ARP would be a sound investment on the new lump especially as its so easy to do with it out of the car.

Thanks for the help people most appreciated..

we are looking into a new engine, on the forum it won't let me go into parts section how do I get access to this so I can have a scan through?.. The it's just down to who we get to do the work.

a few people mentioned about missing a gear can this cause the engine to go?

Welcome mate I have moved this to the correct section, should get more advise in here.

Shame to here whats happened, I recommend becomming a paid member - this will give you acess to both the specialists section and the for sale and wanted sections - your best bet is a 2nd hand engine.

it doesn't "knock for a while" at 7000rpm+ LOL normally gets that hot the bolts shear off and BOOM!

Sometimes, depends on the bolts used, when talking decent bollts I know of more engines that have knocked than didnt TBH for that sort of failure, but like you say the higher the RPM the greater the chance of it failing sooner, plus with a crash helmet on its easier to miss.

Yes its not a good idea to miss a gear.

They dont like bouncing off the limiter, and they like even less if you put it into the wrong gear and give them 11K on a mechanical over rev.

I think you need to be a paid member to see the parts section but a moderator can confirm im sure.

I did that once. Giving it the beans down the road and missed 5th and went into 3rd! Clutched it as it didn't feel right soon as I put it into gear!
