engine care

  80MPG BEEZA
ok i'm wanting to spend a little on my engine to make sure she's puurrfect

i'm gonna give her an oil change and go fully synthetic and add a 10 row oil cooler aswelll as gearbox oil change, plugs and leads, what else can i do to make sure everythings mint?

Oil temperature and pressure gauge to help know how the oil is as at the moment you unlilkly to need an oil cooler.
Air filter change/clean.

trust me i need an oil cooler it really doesnt like being sat in traffic and even going out for a ride down the back roads it can all get very hot, i'll fit a oil temp guage when the oil cooler is fitted, and yep air filter clean is on the list, any other bits and bobs i can replace?

if your being anal then flush the coolant circuit out also change the coil pack. oil cooler works but with it being cold you'll prob have to tape it up till march

change the gearbox oil too, sounds stupid but my brother did it on his golf and it made a noticable gain on the performance, make sure you get decent stuff though.

yea gonna do an gbox oil change for silkolene stuff, ok gonna get performance plugs and leads, how much is the coil pack?

well the car struggles to start after giving her a hard drive and the car went into "safe mode" yesterday and i think its down to either plugs-leads-coil pack so if i replace them i dont have to worry!

When you say it needs an oil cooler how hot are you talking? it is summer in australia and all our clio sports here are doing time in 40 + degrees no problems. unless you've got some serious modding going on then what's the point? given you're going to be dealing with temperature extremes in the colder end of the scale i could only see any oil cooler doing more harm than good as it will take that much longer for your engine to reach operating temperature. btw - i presume you're in the UK

Have you got an oil temperature gauge even in the Uk cars here run 120 degrees on the motorway which isn't good for the oil.

i don't have an oil temperature gauge - nor do the majority of normally aspirated cars. all i'm saying is that clios are driving in much hotter climates (ie: more demanding environments) than yours with no troubles - over hundreds of thousands kilometres.

they may also be running different oil in hotter countries i mean they dont get undersealed like over here

plus car wouldnt start up tonight took 5 attempts for it to turn over so i think it needs plugs leads and coil pack mateys

run an oil cooler with a stat then it only cools within range we drive harder than those pussy ozzies anyways

an oil cooler will be the least of your worrys and if there were ANY major problems with you oil the engine would be totally fecked already.. you want an oil cooler more than you need it.. i bought a 10 row oil cooler for my r5gtt because i wanted it, not because i needed it... it looks cool in the front grill and im not ashamed to say it:rasp:

if you have running problems your looking in the wrong place.. your cars old now and flushing your rad out would make more sense, as would blasting a hose pip into the heater matrix as most are blocked these days.. i did this to mine a while back and there was loads of sh1te coming out + it fixed my heating in the car:cool:

changing the gearbox oils a good idea and when cars get old people dont bother to do it.. maybe change the brake fluid as people forget it with DIY servicing.. wd40 your nipples tho as they will break:dapprove:

nar batmans just trying to prevent anything and looking after his car.

as any good owner would, but im gonna hit you with it now;)

if the 1.8 16v engine needed an oil cooler, Renault would have fitted one themselves.. :quiet: that said if he gets a nice cooler with stat it will bring the engines oil temp up quicker than a standard car would + keep it at its optimum temp.....if we know what that is..

my 10 row, stat, and braided lines were just over £130 and that could be spent better elsewhere..
