engine change , now very lumpy

  clio 172 ph2
as above. had an enginge change and timing belt and dephaser.
the car is very rough on idel and i know this is normal but it is rougher than it should be.
when i lift clutch in first, the car is hunting for revs and sometimes stalls then if i try to start it again it struggles to.

could it be a timing issue?

Could be an air leak to but timing is also a high probability also. Be fair, take it back first and ask to have it checked out.

Belts? who's doing the work?

just a local garage. they say they have done them before.
they are going to have another look at the timeing side today again.

the brakes have went a bit soft too, do you think this is because the car has sat for a week n maybe a caliper has jammed?
the mech man says he has not touched the brakes when doing the engine

did you hear the replacement engine running before it was removed from the doner car? could be a fault with the new engine.

got car back today and all is well!!! timining was out ever so slightly.
how important is it to change the end caps on the cams once removed?
can you not just re-use them?

Personally it's a must change part as they leak not to mention you normally habe to destroy them to get them out intact. If you try to re-use the non genuine/beta-seal units they piss oil out so just change em.
